Channel 4s ADHD documentary

Channel 4 are making a noise about their new documentary about ADHD. There's a suggestion that it's a social construct.

I'm going to give them what they want and rant.

I have it. I have meds for it. And I'll tell you, until you have felt brain one and brain two, you have no idea.

Brain one is on the meds. It's calm. It doesn't care about anything. It's patient. It can talk to people and listen to stories about their mind-numbing life.

It can do gardening and clean the kitchen, and it doesn't care about doing it. Brain one lives life.

Brain two is a fucker. Brain two is on edge 100% of the time. It perceives time differently. It wants sugar and coffee and drugs and sex and it can't stop. It doesn't know what it wants but it wants it all now.

When brain two is peaked it reaches the highest of highs. And it drops so low that I can't even move from the bed. Brain two gets me into HR because I've said some stupid shit. It fucks up my relationships because I have zero subtlety.

I'm too much. I'm intense. It's fun for them at the start because they like the passion. They feel the hunger. But soon enough the eye contact is too much, and other things.

It fills me with shame and guilt. It makes me forget I'm cooking and I burn food. It makes me hide from people because I'm different. It means that I am emotionally dysregulated and can only function when I feel loved. Without affection and intimacy spiking my dopamine, I'm called into the dark recesses of my mind.

And no one knows it's happening because for my whole life I have pretended to be someone else, just to be liked.... because brain two can't understand why anyone would like me. You meet me and you have no idea. I'm confident, measured, and I have my shit together....externally.

The thing is, all I need to do is take a few meds and brain one kicks in.

An easy way to explain it is in PC terms. My brain is the RAM. It's a beast. I can open 10,000 browser windows. My nervous system is the processor. It's from a Commodore 64. Obviously the whole thing freezes and needs a restart. The meds speed up my body so it can process the thoughts out of my brain.

If you don't have ADHD and take the meds, you get high! How can it not be a thing?!

If you have it and are a little tired of this it's not real crap, you and me both. Idiots.
