to give you some idea a mate went from manchester to blackpool last sunday on the train 2 adults and 3 kids and it was @ £50 return

think under 5 is free and child prices are up to 15 or 16 so think youll do it for the £50 you might have to catch certain train times though just out of the busiest

Use the website thetrainline.com or any of the others which are advertised (google them) You say you are NW based but do not give an area so I cannot be specific and I know it sounds expensive but have you considered hiring a people carrier for the weekend?, lots of companies are feeling the pinch and are offering really cheap weekend rates, alternatively a taxi might be cheaper and more flexible. I dont use the trains much as they tend to be expensive if booked within a week of the day I am travelling, I prefer the coach system which is usually cheaper and takes slightly more time to get you there.

Family rail card it will cost you 26 for the year but you will save more than that on the one trip...it will cost you each a 3rd

my old job...

1st of all.. under 5 go free...

2nd.... family and friends railcard.... basically 1/3 off adult fares and 2/3 of chldren fares.... and last for 12 months...

3rd.... see if there are any special tickets.. if you are going on sunday anyway it will only be a cheap day return anyway.....

p.s if you are seriously going from manchester to blackpool this sunday... looks like there is engineering work at picadilly so all the trains are going from Victoria... so go to the right station...
