Time-team has always been a programmes where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts…….

Mick Aston’s presence was a significant factor in making the show so very watch-able and extremely informative…

I’m sure many generations of future archaeologist will inspired by his work….

RIP....and thank-you....

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I saw the announcement on the BBC site last night. He was but 66. What a great character.

"RIP Professor Mick Aston, a member of time team who added colour to the programme with his sweaters. RIP."

The thinking man's Sarah Lund.

Prof Aston's not been on the show for some time, discarded in favour of younger, more photogenic presenters. Plenty of Time Team repeats out there for those who enjoyed Mick Aston's style and expertise.

I'll raise a glass to his memory tonight.

I met Prof Aston a number of times (and most of the other TT regulars) when I was 'involved' (won't say how ) with TT in the late 90's and early 00's.

A genuine guy who's on screen personality always seemed a bit on the cold/dismissive side, which is not how I found him in reality.

A real loss to archaeology... RIP Mick

PS - now he's 'up there', maybe he can find out what the f**k was really going on at Turkdean in around 200-400AD... Lol!!!

ted.

Time Team is compulsive viewing.

Raksha's cleavage, Brigid's whaletail and Carenza's left nipple (the equal of Julia Bradbury's).

All unmissable.
