Here on Teesside, all of the takeaways sell something called a parmesan, or affectionately known as a parmo. It's a chicken or pork escalope, deep fried, then topped with bechamel sauce, and grated cheese, then grilled, traditionally served with chips and salad or creamy cabbage.

They are huge, and top over 1600 calories. But it's the only time cheesy meat is acceptable

I watched a bit of that greggs tv show, they were trying to roll out stotties nationally. I think like the parmo, it's a regional thing

i do also love my East End roots, a party isnt a party without a load of seafood out, jellied eels, whelks, prawns, cockles etc. Pie and Mash with liquor and stewed eels.......mmmmmmmm yummy

a Stottie cake is a flat bread great filled with Ham and Peas pudding, when I was in the forces I was always asked by fellow Geordies to bring them some back when j came back off leave, j had to put an order in at the local Greggs shop
