As long as the forums have existed, there have been threads asking things like "What has Fab become?", or complaining about fake profiles, scammers, and time-wasters.

Whenever I've commented on those threads, I've usually been one of the people saying that, while those profiles undoubtedly exist, they're not representative of the majority. In my experience they're relatively easy to spot, so although they occur, they've never really felt like a significant problem.

Recently, though, I started wondering whether my experience of Fab has been shaped by where I live.

I travel a lot for work, and until recently I'd never really paid much attention to what Fab was like in the different parts of the country I visited. So I started changing my location to wherever I was working at the time, just to see whether the experience was any different.

Now, I accept there may be some confirmation bias because I was actively looking for differences.

That said, I came away convinced that many of the complaints I'd previously been quite dismissive of are genuinely far more relevant in some areas than others.

I still don't think those profiles represent the majority, and I still think they're usually easy enough to identify. But I can now understand why people in some parts of the country seem much more frustrated than others.

So I'm curious... has anyone else noticed this? Does where you live have a big impact on your experience of Fab, or have I just happened to stumble across an odd coincidence?

I'm also one of those who has never had a no show or engaged with a fake profile.

While I recognise that they do exist I've never fully understood why some people get stood up all the time while others rarely if ever do and some seem to only ever chat to fake or cat fishing profiles while again many others don't.

My reply on those threads is that maybe the difference is down to due diligence or not meeting quickly or being more selective in who you message.

I don't know if geography comes into the equation or not.

I just know that there is a much smaller fab "community" over here and no club scene so more and more people tend to meet through the ever increasing number of group socials.

Are you suggesting that from your experience that the numbers of fake profiles increase in larger urban areas?

I live in the South West and my experience sounds identical to yours….

But yes urban areas seem to be the ones that heighten these differences.

For example I’m in Leeds and my update feed has quite a few obvious fake profiles….some obviously scamming…but still mostly genuine. However I rarely see any of that usually

The other day I was in Birmingham and I noticed many more profiles looking for something specific that I have never noticed locally

Interesting perspective. I’m NW Midlands and regularly see similar profiles crop up, always older couple, him good stayer, good size etc, her, collection of toys and lingerie. They exist for a few weeks then are gone. I think they’re fake but message them for the lols. Never get a reply obviously but don’t know if they crop up in other regions

Can't really pass comment on different locations, but we are in the west Midlands and we've never had a no show or fake profile either.

Do you think there's more of a probability of these things happening for those who choose to rush into meeting someone?

I think being a slow burner and having half a brain cell is the main reason why we haven't fell foul to this.

I live in London and haven't come across anything dubious, personally. I travel to Chesterfield and Sheffield and, once again, not a fragment that resembles anything fake. I've traversed along the fringes of Birmingham, Midlands and the metropolis of Manchester - again, nothing to report.

I think it's probably because I rarely look at my local updates/feeds, nor do I engage in any active crusades to seek fakes, scammers or nefarious characters. I suppose they must exist but they never encroach into my Fab lifestyle or impede my experiences on here.

I definitely think that most of the responsibility lies with the person experiencing these things… people just need to take responsibility and have better due diligence.

I just wondered if exposure to the possibility of it is higher depending on where you live

Yes and I would have said exactly the same from previous experience. Never really noticed any difference and I have met great people all over the country.

So it maybe because this time I have intentionally looked out for it…and therefore noticed it more.

And that brings me here to expand my research haha

In all honesty, I've never really noticed it to be any different irrespective of locations. Also, I've no complaints since 2017 being on and off FabSwingers and FabGuys I've only ever encountered 2# fake profiles that were problematic in terms of having been invited to find fake profiles; in the sense that he was nothing like he portrayed in his profile which led me to quick step out of his disgusting apartment and another who gave wrong address with him probably enjoying perving from nearby window watching me knock on door only to encounter someone else.

Nowadays just on FabSwingers and I agree with you OP in that there are a lot of flakes on site who have no real intentions of playing, etc. but thankfully, there are a lot more genuine nice peeps who are on site to enjoy having a good time which makes it worthwhile.

Exactly my view and experience

I just wanted to make an attempt at understanding the complainers rather than my usual dismissing of it and just thinking to myself….just get on with it and enjoy the genuine people….and if you can’t then leave

I've had a couple of no shows, they were verified and chatting right up until I was due to leave then blocked.

I'm usually very good at ling out time wasters but a couple if1 times I genuinely had no idea.

Fake profiles I think are easy to spot.

It's the internet it will happen to some not all.

💯 Never really understood why we peeps seem to feel the need to always complain when there's a choice to either stay or leave, etc. It's like watching television, if you don't like the program simply change the channel.

Sometimes, it just winds me up when so many lovely (delicious) profiles connect and they're a myriad miles away. Still, we never say never. Always nice to know that maybe one day we may just happen to be in area.

Pay if the problem is that some people are looking through horn eyes so they just look at the too good to be true profiles are hope they are true and then get disappointed. You sound like you look through with more sensible eyes and as you say they are easy to spot and avoid.

I'm sure there are regional differences but they same rule applies. Avoid the fake profiles and there will be plenty of genuine ones.

Most definitely, were and around were I live there are a lot of fake profiles , lots of what I would call curious profiles that dont show much but are alway on , in London it seems a lot more active , and Scotland is probably the most active , wales I tend to get more messages though ( were they make first contact )

I better make it clear though lol this is purly MY opinion , and from my experience, I work all over the uk so maybe its just because I show up on there searches as new !?

I've met some lovely people on here, I'm rural in north of Scotland so it can be slim pickings. I've seen both sides with fakes, no shows, people who shouldn't be allowed access to the Internet and yet also some lovely and genuine people. The meets dont happen often so I feel bad about complaining about the bad ones. The few good ones definitely make up for it though.

I've only ever had no shows. I don't think I see any scammers but scammers are usually the ones I'd ignore anyway. I see a lot of requests and offers of 'snow'. Maybe I attract the no shows, either way, I've 100% given up on engaging with anyone except for forums

That said, I do think my experience as a woman is probably quite different to that of men or couples on here.

Genuine question though, what do people class as a ‘time waster’?

Since the BBC report a few weeks ago. Have not seen or read-it . Apart from threads on here. I look at new couple and females profiles. Not every day . But noticed that some days not many in my area . But a lot from various of others. Then more in area for couple days . Sort of repeated . Add among ones that are asking to go on other sites and other things . Not sure if OP is correct or not ?
