I don't particularly class people who go on the beer all day when England play, to be football fans. They're just out on the beer for an excuse. I'm a genuine football fan, every home and frequently away too. I never see any trouble, hardly anything at all for years and that's following Birmingham. We've not exactly got a clean cut image. The problem with football is that because of its history, it attracts the kind of people you talk about when the big tournaments are in play. I stopped going the pub to watch England games some years ago because of the type of people that were in attendance. They had no interest in the game and thus, trying to watch a game in a busy pub is impossible because there are too many distractions. They're just pissheads who latch on to football for a day out, they couldn't tell you anything about the game they've supposedly just watched. There are plenty of d*unkenness problems at cricket, it's an all-day drink fest. Horse racing too. In fact, horse racing is in a right shoddy state. I would advise you never to book a hotel room close to a horse racing venue when there's a meet in, your weekend stands a fair chance of being ruined by absolutely shot-faced neanderthals in suits. It's not fair to compare football to the above sports purely because of the attendance figures. There are non-league teams pulling more numbers than first class cricket matches. There have been major problems at rugby league too over the past few years. Most of the anti-football comments on this site are born purely out of ignorance, people haven't got a clue what they're talking about. | |||
