Following on from the local bands thread- do you know of any unsigned or little known bands with an excellent/weird name?

My favourite for some time has been Shithorse

I came across a band on Facebook recently that was called The Rapists. I mean, REALLY? What on earth would make them name their band that??

DIP D*unk In Public.

Rev Hammer and a few of the Levellers.

Used to play acoustic sets in pubs. Had an old crisp box as a bass drum with the pedal tapped to it with duct tape!

Bloody brilliant.

A metal band I heard of: Dying fetus... Sounds so cliché!!

Otherwise, I alwys thought that The The was the most terrible name ever worn by a pop band

Dartford

In the late ninetees there were a few Welsh bands, some still going with odd names:

Super Furry Animals

Manic Street Preachers

Weirdest of all Gorki Xygotic Mynki (think that's how you spell it)

'never found out what it meant

"

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

Gorky - just a name and not Welsh I think. Always thought it was taken from Gorky Park which is in......Warsaw? Somewhere in Eastern Europe

Zygotic - it's a biology term. Not Welsh

Mynci - Welsh spelling of monkey.

Not really very Welsh at all if the above is correct!

I always like the eighties indie band of little repute called

Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead.

Oh, and Gaye Bikers on Acid and Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds

IIRC, the Welsh bit was that they mainly sung in Welsh

Some good bands being brought to the fold.

Neds were really good, also liked Carter USM, Gorkys Zygotic mynci were an intereting set up. At the time I remember listening to Banco De gaia and the Ozric Tentacles. Interesting stuff.

Not so much on the name but check out a girl I think Belgian by the name of Kania Tieffer, absolutely crazy arped ass shit, imagine punk accompanied with the music from a ZX Spectrum. Barmy !
