I prefer to tell them… I think it’s a responsibility as a parent as you have their best Interest at heart and a teacher may just be being generic…

Plus I want my daughter to be able to come to me with anything and not be afraid or feel judged

Don't have any yet...that I know of 😂

I would tell them myself. Better to hear it from me than some teacher. Responsibility lies with the parents. It's hard to be one these days from what I can see.

You know your child so you know how best to explain. Things… I think what a stranger/teacher does it it creates extra questions that can maybe be uncomfortable. I’d rather have the conversations so they no that no matter what or how uncomfortable it feels they have a dad who will listen, help and not judge…

I found it easy with my daughter because we have always had that bond I was at the birth when she gave birth to 3 of my Grandkids, my sons was a different matter they just told me to sssssh lol

I think its important as a parent that you establish a relationship where your child feels comfortable and safe enough to come to you and ask those difficult questions.

I've had chats with my eldest about things as well as the school. I'm quite confident that she knows as much as she needs to at this stage in her life. And that she can come and ask me anything without fear or judgement.

My Grandaughter came to me when she started becoming interested in boys she said she just couldn't Chat to her Mam about which I thought was sad at the time

My three sons are so very different, my eldest who's 46 would never discuss sex with me,my second eldest was OK with it and my youngest he openly discusses sex if I want him to or not ,he's the same with his two eldest daughters

My parents assumed I was taught the facts of life at school, so they never raised the topic. They knew I watched Eurotrash and there were plenty of films on TV with sex references and romantic scenes, so they probably felt there was no need to raise the question.

The most cocky and annoying of my nephews was telling me all about how he was gonna get a great job and make loads of money and do better than anyone else in the family.

So I explained the facts of life around income tax and mortgages and how much he’d need for a house deposit and utility bills and car insurance and that by the time he’s working the retirement age will be 80. And he got rather upset. Apparently that makes me a shitty uncle . 😂

My biology teacher in my first year at secondary school told us the process . She stood there stunning in her paper dress ( it was a thing then ) and proceeded to explain with two different size glass tumblers one containing water . It was a further 6 years before I realised what she was demonstrating

I taught my son, he understood the mechanics but I really don't think that's enough.

We spoke in depth about consent, appropriate touch, that you only do sexual things when you feel comfortable and ready. We talked about the different relationships, friendships etc.

How mood and your own emotional state can dictate how you react to certain situations etc. I've worked in schools and they definitely don't talk enough about sex and relationships in the UK.

I've always made sure my boys have felt comfortable to talk to me about anything. So naturally we had pretty open conversations about sex, sexuality, healthy boundaries etc.

What they teach in school is not enough.

I think parents absolutely have to try to teach kids about healthy relationships and sex. It doesn't have to be one big "birds and bees" talk at puberty, but an ongoing age-appropriate conversation from being very young and first learning the Pants Rule.

Some kids are more willing to listen than others!

I have one boy who very comfortably took things in and asked a million questions, and one boy who hit 9 and started to find it all very excruciating. In the end, I left a book in his room, told him it was there and why, and said it was important not to just listen to his mates about these things and if he wasn't comfortable talking to his parents he at least had some proper information. He refused to read the book 😆

I don't have kids but based on the shockingly bad and awkward talk my mum gave me when she deemed it appropriate, and having to learn to fill the gaps in (no pun intended!) myself (much later on in life!), I wish she had been able to talk to me about it better.

I like the point someone made above about teaching about consent, and how your mood might affect things, and stuff beyond the simple mechanics/biology.

My older boys i tried to tell they did not want the conversations about it so bought them a book and told them to read it.

I did have the safety chats when I knew they were sexually active though and told them where to find condoms.

My daughter was pretty easy to have the chat with
