Nothing to do with here, but you seem like a half intelligent lot, well most of you anyway. And I had to vent my annoyance somewhere!! Arghhhh!!!

Long story short, gave other halfs parents marine fish tank last year. Bout £400 worth.. Now they have decided to sell it!

This I can live with just about, but... They rang other half tonight.. And I quote... (not very good on the eBay thing son can you sell fish tank for us)... Not sure wether to vent my anger or... Seethe quietly!????

Or am I being unreasonable?

Any thoughts?

You gave it them I assume without any conditions of what they should do if they no longer wanted it... it's theirs to do with as they wish.

You never know they may offer you a cut once it's sold for helping them sell it.

Thanks for your input polo and yes I did give it to them but.. They do it constantly.. They ask for things perhaps I should learn a lesson and won't get burned in future, guess I'm answering my own question... And a cut definitely not

I think your anger is justified as this would really clunk my clackers. Why not go and collect the tank saying you wiki sell it and just stick it in the shed and forget about it.

I'd get your OH to take a cut out of whatever it sells for, give it to you, and then YOU give them the balance and make it clear you have taken a cut due to the outlay only a year earlier...

Call me callous, but......

ted.

It was a gift to them without strings. They can then do as they wish with it. Would I have asked you to flog it? No! But hey oh!

To paraphrase Judge Judy (who is a goddess in my umble opinion) .

You give a gift unconditionally you surrender all interest in it - therefore they are free to do with as they wish.

)You could say to them you would like it back n then you sell it!! )

I think in all honesty if you gave it to them it's there's to do as they please. However if they are always doing it, next time a comment like " if you sell it I want half of what you get" would be fair.

Mind you if they are the age of the free bus pass, let them keep the money.

I have a tropical tank.. its my pride and joy... im sure I have a spare corner...

You will also probably have more luck contacting your local fish shop.. a Maidenhead aquatics or similar.

They are very high maintenance and not for the faint hearted.. should have gone for the soft option of a goldfish

I would say the first rule of thumb is , you gave them it , but once they had there fun then the first port of call would be back to yourselves , if you didn't want it , then there's to do as wish.

Bridgwater - Somerset

They are taking advantage.

Had you thought of just saying no?

Unconditional gift - their tank, why should you have the hassle of selling it?

If they want to profit from a gift - let them do the work.
