I got a cheap iPhone cable from eBay which worked for about a week!

Then got another one which wasn't as cheap but cheaper than official and it's been fine.

Pay your money and take your chances. A lot of them are total shite. I would rather get a decent one in the first place rather than faff around.

The better one was from sainsburies. No idea of the brand name. I would of just bought an apple one after the cheap shit one broke but I was in dire need and don't have a phone or apple shop near me so just bought the only one available! Lol x

I bought a couple of cheap ones from Amazon, less than £2 each in p&p, they work fine for my phone, but don't charge my friends E-cig, to be honest, @ less than £2 it was worth taking the chance, just don't get the ones that say they catch fire etc lol. read the recent veri's and go with that.

If you buy from a reputable trader, you should be OK, regardless of the price. Buying from the internet from an unknown source can be risky because there are 100s of fakes about which as you say, will probably last about a week before they go pop.

I bought 2 mains and 2 car chargers off ebay for less than £5 (mainly to leave at work and in my grab bag) both are fine and i've had them for 2 years- charge both ipod and iphone. read the feedback though to see if there are many complaints about the chargers

all over the place

I would be careful about buying plugs from non approved sources ,many are designed to hack your phone or ipad in less than a minute ,by injecting code via the power cable .

ain't life a bitch .

What? By plugging in it transfers code to your device?

proper one...... always...

I know in east london there were a ton of knock off and cheap ones removed because they were exploding, causing electrican fires and scaring people thru overheating....
