So here's a question...

How do you know if you're in north or south of the UK?

Is it a landmark or is it something else?

Titz Towers, North Notts

This debate is nothing new.

There's an Anglo-Saxon charter from possibly Æthelræd Unræd's reign that mentions someone as bishop for Oxford and the North - or it runs along those lines, anyway.

Historically, the River Trent is the beginning of the North.

When Richard of Gloucester (Richard III) was Warden of the North for his Brother Edward, his writ began on the North bank of the Trent.

I would say Coventry.

Why? Because like some Southern men on here I am beset by The Fåb Curse™. Most, if not all, of my dates have been with women from Coventry upwards (Birmingham, Manchester, Stirling, Fife...).

The south eludes me. So, yes, Coventry is the demarcation point.

This is a mystery. But then so are women.

In the Great British tradition of divide and conquer (yes, other nations have also done the same) I have drawn a line. Leeds is now the divide between the North and the South. There is no Midlands. Anything below Leeds is the South. Anything above Leeds is the North. Leeds itself will be split into North Leeds and South Leeds. Enjoy the civil war. May the odds be ever in your favour.
