Does anyone else use this for work and feel it’s becoming more and more like a social media platform like Facebook rather than a professional tool. Constantly seeing people post their life events or political opinions etc on there.

Really irks me. Keep it to business and work please.

Somewhere in the middle not the.....

I do, literally go on to check my sectors and see if there are any interesting updates but other than that not on it much

And yes its becoming more and more like an influencer site than a professional connection site, less about work and more look at me and how amazing I am.

It's huge self promotion, and totally contradictory.

I have been hired via LinkedIN in my last two roles and I'm on there for recruitment only.

Yeah I agree, it’s degenerating into “personal” post and A.I. Generated slop

I just use it as a digital CV and for messaging, the "posts" have been nonsense for years.

I don't use it anymore. The concept was great. Unfortunately it's not worth the hassle. It seems the barriers between professional and private are getting blurred. I understand when a person is the face of their company or brand. Anything outside of that, doesn't seem to make sense to me.

It’s what you make it, same as any social or networking platform. If you don’t like the way someone posts, don’t follow them.

I deactivated my account ages ago and forgot I had one so logged back in after I got an email, lasted 10 minutes and permanently deleted it. OP is right it’s more like facebook now than what it was originally meant to be.

My news feed is full of posts from people I’m not following or connected too. They are all 2nd and 3rd connections or ‘you may knows’

As someone in desperate need of a new job, it's a necessary evil. But I hate it. It's even worse than Facebook for attention seekers and scammers.

It's work Facebook for nosey bastards

I have avoided it for around 15 years now

I've also had at least 3 battles with employers who have 'told' me I had to have a LinkedIn profile - it went with my role

I think not!

Ive started to aggressive with my feed to train the algo. Unfortunately my old role has a UAE element so I get all the shitfluencers and selfies.

It's lost its personal element and like a lot of things ATM I think it will shrink the world. Which unfortunately closes doors to some. It recreates old boy networks and who you know.

I'm still on it as I feel I have to be until I find other ways with engaging with people who may to work with me and are seeking a professional.

I just note their opinions on particular topics and it let's me know whether I want to do business with them.

Yes I do and yes it is, I've actually hardly use it these days to many self centred people who think the world revolves around themselves

I've used it a lot over the years for work and its been brilliant for networking, and finding new roles. I don't mind the personal posts. Ultimately people are people and far more than just their job title . In my industry human connection is actually really important.

It's useful for keeping work contacts, but the amount of virtue signalling, by people I know to be unpleasant, as well as the general selling yourself messaging, makes me avoid.
