I think its quite cheeky of us to brand the team Lions when Lions are not native to our shores….

But hey,,,, I guess The British Field Mice doesn’t have the same ring to it….

Id go with this side....except maybe Heaslip over Toby? Jamie Roberts looking doubtful so would switch Davies to 12 alongside O Driscoll.

As much as i am i huge fan of Justin Tips theres no way Gats wont start with Sam. Very much looking forward to the first test. Halfpennys on fire and kicking superbly

isn't he suppose to be an commentator for aussie tv, which is why he was going down there anyway....

have to admit, that when i saw he'd be called up, was to check it wasn't april 1st... lol

wade is an interesting call up... he is lightening quick and played really well for wasps last year.... thought he may have called up visser instead...

barritt does nothing for me... but if he is that short of centres, he could have called up james hook!!!

shane Williams will be a radio pundit over there and I don`t think that gats likes james hook for some reason . George north has been described as less than 50/50 for being fit for the first test and Justin tipuric is in the side for this midweek game so sam warburton is likely to get in the test team

some of these midweek players may well be on the bench for the test team or have an outside chance of making it

To me they are playing as expected. Average teams against a very good lions side. The first test is first test to come. If they played tougher opposition. It would be easier to say how they would do against Australia.

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

But there's a fine line between 'not tough enough' and 'too tough' - that's always been the problem with the old fashioned style 'tours'.

I think the winner of the first test will win the series, but although it's the weakest wallaby team for decades & the lions should win - it ain't gunna be easy!!

I don't think he'll go Croft and Heaslip - that's two back rowers who spend a fair bit of time out in wide channels (although Croft has been trying to play a little differently I think). If they play both, Sam will struggle as he needs a destructive 6 there - that's why Gatland loves Lydiate.

It does look as though he's edging towards Croft, with the line out being a big factor in his decision. I think he'll pick Faletau, who can offer some of the close to the breakdown work that enables Sam to play his game.

Oh and stop calling the legend that is Adam Jones fat! The man can do no wrong and is also one of the biggest characters in the sport!

Some tough decisions for Gats.

It's all about picking a side that'll gel with only six-odd weeks to do so - second nature cohesion - there's simply not enough time for.

Personally I believe the Welsh national team would be too strong for the wallabies, but the proof lies on Saturday.

Can't believe that they sold their soul to sky tv though - I'll be looking out for the sponsors - to avoid their products in the future!!

Being only a few days before the 1st test, this was always going to be the likeliest defeat in the warm-up games.

Surprised at Corbisieros selection ahead of Vunipola. Otherwise my only different choice was Hibs at hooker. Cant wait for saturday

That back row worries me. Sam's a great player when fit and in form, but he needs another real "dog" in the back row for him to play well. That's why Gatland loves Lydiate so much.

Faletau gives that close quarters destructive work too. It's the kind of stuff that doesn't get noticed, but is vital. That's why Richard Hill was hardly ever noticed, but people who know rugby say he was one of the best ever.

Croft's best work is done out wide and in the line out-areas He's superb in. Heaslip looks good, but is a bit of a show-pony and plays out wide too. it's going to be crowded on the wings unless they modify their games to fit Gatland's style more.

I'm not saying Lydiate and Faletau deserve selection over those two. They perhaps haven't done enough. I worry Warburton will have too much to do at the breakdown and will miss the destructive tackler though.

ireland rugby team includes Northern Ireland as well. Also rugby has always connected Ireland and the Britain. Hence the triple crown. Even at the height of the troubles there were British army officers playing for Ireland as they were from Northern Ireland. The rugby team of "Ireland" includes the whole island and always has done.

If you're not good enough to take your kicks or even wear the right boots then you don't deserve to win the match. It's a moot point

The Lions just need to get their discipline around the break down area in check (okay, the ref on Saturday was a joke in that department) and they'll win the series.

"one thing i think we all can agree on is well done to the british and ireland lions on beating the australians.

They didn't beat them they only won because of two bad kicks they was very very very lucky

they didn't beat them ! 23-21 sounds like a win to me."

"just done a little bit of research, the british and ireland lions started life as the british isles, ireland are not part of great britain, but ireland is part of the british isles.

It is a strange one and not helped by people constantly referring

To them as the British Lions! "

I still tend to call them that... Remember they have actually only been known as the British and Irish lions since the 2001 tour technically....

Back to the rugby.....

The loss of poc is a Huge blow... Since he and ajw played really well Saturday ... Parling will just slot in

parling will come in and do a good job.. but he isn't the line out person and as good around the breakdown... mind you with young at hooker, he will be use to throwing to parling so it may not be the worst thing in the world

It's amazing, thanks. Having the trip of a lifetime. I'm lucky, my brother's been living here for years so I have a great tour guide.

The atmosphere is just incredible. The English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh fans are bloody awesome!!

Few changes made for Saturday;

Halfpenny, Bowe, O'Driscoll, North, Sexton, Ben Youngs; Vunipola , Tom Youngs, Adam Jones,A.W Jones,Parling, Lydiate, Warburton (C), Heaslip.

Reps; Hibbard, Grant, Cole, Croft, O'Brien, Murray, Farrel, Cuthbert.

Phillips hasnt trained all week due to a dodgy knee and although he was available, Gatland is resting him for next week. I am quietly confident as i was last week Roll on Saturday

I don't have an issues with the team... bowe is more dynamic for me, plus I think is much better defensively.....

lydiate for croft for me says they are expecting a tighter game around the breakdown... and better refereeing..

young is in better form than philips... philips box kicking last week was awful, and i would have tempted to start with young anyway regardless of injury

my only slight gripe and it is a minor one... I would have started with grant instead of marko to start since he is the much better scrumager.... and marko of the bench..

but enough of my rugby analysis... should be a great saturdays sport....

Go Fabio - LOL - this southern hemisphere referee'n at the breakdown is baffling you: is it right or is it wrong?????? - one thing I do know is; Who plays & has played the best running rugby over the last 30-odd years!!! Not the breakdown, but Just ask the Welsh what they thought of the northern hemisphere ref in the world cup semi??? But WTF - GO THE LIONS!!!

played ok overall . line outs let us down badly . scrum needs work and we soaked up quite a bit of pressure second half . the aussies never really looked like scoring a try apart from the try they did score which was excellent . next week should be a great occasion

I have been having this arguement with a friend this morning...

he came down on the "he's right to drop BOD" because JD is the more in form 13, that he's plays more with JR, and that they are better at playing gatlands game...

mind you.... he is welsh!!!!

I think it is madness... he is the better 13 both in offence and defense (which defender missed the tackle on the aussie try last week... it was JD) and to be honest BOD hasn't played with a proper 12 all tour.....

all the other changes i can see the logic in.... but gatlands lions tenure will live or die on just this one decision.....

I think that he ahs gone with the welsh players ne knows and they should be motivated with the number of losses they have had to austrialia when they should have won some of those games

it is a bit unfair on bod as for him to not even make the bench does not make sense

He is going for a fight. He wants just raw power and no guile. Ok , drop him for starting 15 but not in the squad!!!!!!! Bod can be hard to play with - he thinks quicker than everyoneelse.

I think that Gatland has gone with Plan B: This ain't working, & we're gunna lose the series, so - 'hit them with the element of surprise' - trouble is; so is everyone else!!! .........but if it works, it's a master stroke!!!

Here's hoping
