The land of grey peas and bacon

So I am making cupcakes to sell tomorrow as my parents are doing cream teas for a gala that is being held where they live....

I need some ideas on what to make flavour wise to earn a bit of extra dosh.

Just don't put a filling in them like Costa do. It's so wrong on every sort of bakery level.

On a slightly different note, if it's an outdoor event, and dogs are likely to be around, try making some dog safe cakes.

I make them for dog shows for local dog charities, and they go down a storm.

If you make a buttercream topping its nice with a dollop of rasberry jam in gives it a nice colour and taste

I thought a fairy cake had the top sliced off then halved inserting into the cream...?

In Your Bush

Have you considered laying a cheese slice on the top, adding a gherkin and putting them in rolls?

The 2 best sellers are peanut butter and banana cake, and chocolate brownie (using dog safe chocolate!).

Very easy to make. Just like normal cake really.

Pardon my ignorance in this matter but is that because 'fairy' has a very different connotation in the US?

Cupcakes have a decoration on the top....

Fairy cakes... differ in that you cut a disc off the domed top, hollow/ core out a middle which will be filled with flavours/cream.

The little disc is then cut in half and placed on top, like fairy wings....

Maybe it's a regional thing, to me a cupcake is a largeish thing with some sort of piped buttercream icing on

A fairy cake is a smaller bun probably with glace icing and sprinkles (optional). And a butterfly bun is the one where you cut it and give it wings.

Nope...!!!

A cupcake is a cake, any type of ingredients, cup sized, for one person.....

A fairy cake is a sponge mix, for one person...

A fairy/ butterfly cake does not have to have "wings".... A cupcake can have wings if you want....

A muffin is as above, but made with muffin mix....

Anne the debate rages on....

Buns were originally baked in tea cups so cupcake has probably got a longer heritage of use over here than the US even though it is now synonymous with US usage.

If whole, iced, or topped with sprinkles etc than bun or fairy cake is UK usage.

Butterfly buns are the ones with wings, generally filled with butter cream.

Little tip: if you have a grapefruit knife cluttering your utensil drawer it's perfect to cut a deeper cavity to fill with butter cream...
