Anyone else suffer with this? I’ve had physio, too painful to continue, tried the various creams no effect, taken anti inflammatory drugs but doctors tell me to stop as I have a heart condition.

I can’t get the doctor to give me an appointment or scans , I’m loosing the will to ask anymore. Ideas?

I am not a specialist so take this with appropriate caveats but in my experience the physio approach is the way to treat these muscular issues. I would go back to your physio and tell them it hurts and you need a different approach. If that doesn’t work then find another.

If it really hurts to much then stop but I have found if I focus on very light strengthening/increasing range of motion and then take it from there then things heal. It can take a long time though. Speak to the specialist again.

Not a specialist either. Have you tried resistance bands? I've heard they work for some.

OP, I think I've got the same, is it in the shoulders? I've had this for 2 years after violently throwing a ball for the dog.

My upper body strength has now all but disappeared, so frustrating as I ride a large motorbike!

Physiotherapy definitely improves the condition, even after one visit. Please keep up the physio.

Interesting you would choose a swingers site to choose advice for this injury ?

However, in this order

Rest

Physio, light pendulum movements

Ice therapy

Oral anti inflammatory meds(uf allowed)

Cortisone injections

Surgery !!

Good luck mate hope it gets better soon.

Thank you for the replies. The reason I asked is that this is a swingers site and all sorts of people are on here ,many with specialty knowledge, and , I don’t use facebook etc.

I’m grateful to you all.

couple, us we him her.

I'd definitely get a proper assessment by a trained qualified specialist.

Leaving it may make it worse, relying on others advice may also make it worse.

After a swimming related injury about a decade ago I was being treated for suspected rotator cuff ,but it got worse and worse to the point my shoulder was constantly dislocating, after further assessment and scans turns out I had a torn Labrum and the shoulder was basically fucked, needed surgery and wires.

So don't assume that it's a simple fix, hopefully it is.

Don't leave it get to a professional.

Yes, a long time ago now full tears, partial on one side and bursitis now.

Physio really REALLY helped, as did steroid injections, and guided long acting local anaesthetic given with ultrasound scanning support.

Codeine phosphate for the pain, and id probably either do a course of steroid injections, though I doubt the NHS will be willing, or have a google about peptides to help your testosterone levels which should boost your bodys own anti inflammation and healing.

I ripped my bicep tendon completely off and did the above after re attachment to speed up the healing. And this stuff is amazing at dealing with pain, be active muscle and sports gel. Its about a tenner. I didnt know my tendon had detached because this worked so well!

Brighton - even Hove!

Ask for a steroid injection. I had exactly the same, painkillers did nothing, physio did nothing, a steroid injection stopped the pain within hours. Then gentle exercise.

Ive done this in the past. It was horrible. Recovery took a bit long for me as I dislocated it too.

I still have this , very mildly , from when I got stupid with some cow bells and ripped my right shoulder.

Time, patience, self care , rest and get ADVICE from trained professionals.

You seem a bit anxious about it. Accept it takes time and rest and your anxiety may lessen.

If your physiotherapist is deterring you from speaking up, find a different one, even if just for advice. I've seen several and they have all been very different.

I occasionally also write to my GP, if I want something on record and to initiate their action. I'd also be willing to register a complaint, if I felt that their care was negligent.

Depends how long it’s been torn, if you get on it early and stick to the physio regime it should repair with full flexibility

Leave it alone and I found it kind of froze with maybe 20% less flexibility

Had very limited range of movement following an injury from a fall. Got a Cortisone injection followed by some physio sessions and lots of stretching and strengthening exercises done in the swimming pool. The resistance of the water added significant benifit to the shoulder exercises imo.

90%, pain free movement after 3 months. The exercises also helped relieve arthritis pain in the opposite shoulder.

Best of luck OP with your recovery.

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Cuff tears can be managed either conservatively or surgically, various factors depending.

If the tear is relatively small or moderate, conservative mx is preferable at first. This includes consistent, targeted physio for at least 4-6 months. Steroid injection provides a window for rehab if painful symptoms are excessive. If conservative mx proves unsuccessful, surgery then becomes an alternative option.

Larger tears with significant functional loss may require surgery upfront, though this isn't necessarily applicable to elderly age groups.

Hope it improves.

Somewhere in the middle not the.....

I can empathise on the pain OP, i have a fairly high pain threshold and this was agony.

Took me about 6 months to recover from a minor tear and strain (i also had an avulsion fracture to the humerus head so needed that to heal fully also)

Regular physio and pain management from a good professional is what helped me, I got back to about 90% normal range of motion (the fracture believe or not was missed by a&e so had begun to heal so the head is no longer smooth so it doesnt help)

Keep on at them, and I'd definitely be looking at changing physio if they are being no help with regard to referring for pain management.
