Confidence for me is amazing and for me never intimidating. Not sure if I personally would call that situation confidence though. Sounds more transactional than confident.

I prefer to chat and see if there is a connection first. I've had a hotel meet with a couple and the lady was quite arrogant as though she was doing me a favour.
