Recommendations Rome stay

Nr Chester

Hi

Looking at visiting Rome for few days and wanting help of which area to stay in.

Not looking at paying stupid money for hotels but don't want to end up to far away from everything..so any ideas of where others have stayed and recommend would be appreciated.

I personally enjoy staying in Trastevere, it isn’t central but it’s a really cool little neighbourhood and still walkable. Lots of bars, independent shops and restaurants.

If you want central then somewhere near Campo de' Fiori would work.

When I went with friends, we stayed in an area call San Lorenzo. Looks a bit rough around the edge but only a 30min walk to the main centre with good transport links too. Some very good restaurant and bars too and the night life is great as it's apparently more of a student-y type of area

There are cheap placed to stay in the heart of Rome. I was in a rather crappy hotel (with a brick wall being the view from the window!) about 10 minutes' walk to the Colosseum.

Keep an eye out for a landmark entitled "The Pyramid of Cestus", as it's really cool and doesn't get enough attention!

I've booked hotel in Trastevere

Another guy is messaging me with info and he has suggested train to so will look into that

I'll give you the best piece of advice you'll ever have when visiting Rome, and I worked it out rather quickly.

When attempting to cross a road, always look around a nun and walk directly behind her, as they are the only individuals deadly Roman drivers will actually slow down for!

Love Rome ,stayed there twice now, walking at least 3 to 4 . miles a day but so worth it. Local family run cafes have excellent food and wine. Viva la dolce Vita etc ...

Most nuns in Rome are of the elderly sort, so I wouldn't worry about offending the wife - as long as you aren't a known Gerontophiliac!!

If you are visiting for just a few days you will struggle to see everything and as with all cities the food isnt great unless you go high end ,my advice dont go cheap ,the sites are amazing and so many to see ,i enjoyed it but was worn out lots of walking .

Last time I was there, a child I was with left the water to overflow. It came cascading down the staircase, into reception

Following lots of tears, the owner let us off the extortionate charges he imposed . I can't remember the area but be wary of flooding your hotel, in case it's the same one

Didcot

I stayed at the Best Western President which is right next to Manzoni Metro Station which is the first stop from Rome Termini, a 15 min walk to the Colosseum and about 25 min walk to the Pantheon and Spanish Steps.
