The second with queenie. Great cast love Miranda Richardson. Rowan is a real favourite of mine. Only seen him live once when he played Fagin in Oliver at West End. It wasn't the character I like to see him play.

Also like Goes Forth.

Agreed, I think the combination of Blackadders cynical venom and Georges blustering idiocy made the best of both mens performances. My favourite episode was 'Amy and Amiability'

'One move and you'll be as dead as that squirrel!'

-

Lieutenant George: How, how do you mean, Sir? Do you mean, do you mean take her home at weekends to meet your mother?

-

Lord Flasheart: No, I mean get inside her five times a day and take her to heaven and back.

-

Captain Blackadder: I'm beginning to see why the suffragette movement want the vote.

Lord Flasheart: Hey! Any girl who wants to chain herself to *my* railings and suffer a jet movement gets *my* vote!

The way you've come to know these characters over the past six episodes, seen their personalities and relationships with one another, only for them to die senselessly at the very end...and yes the fading to the poppy field with the birds gently tweeting, was a work of artistic genius

Yet none of them expected it to work. The scene, before the edit and slow-mo, apparently didn't really work.

I've been watching them this last week. Blackadder so completely different to Terry and June (see earlier thread) and yet they were contemporaneous.

Excluding 'gerald the gorrilla' blackadder had to be the best character rowan has played.

unlike most I actually like the first series. Its not as good as the other 3, but think thats because baldrick was the smarter one.

Baldrick - I can whip up a turnip surprise

Black adder - What's a turnip surprise?

Baldrick - It's a turnip without anything in it except the turnip.

Black adder - so a turnip surprise is just a turnip?

Baldrick - Oh yea.

Quote it all me. Sad I know

Yeah, they were all brilliant apart from 'one' with baldric the only sane character & blackadder just childish/stupid.

Ben Elton's writing saved it!

Blackadder 4 would have to be my favorite - sadly, there was so much truth with the idiotic big-wigs 30 miles behind the front line, sipping their G & T's whilst shouting the orders - brilliantly hilarious though!!!

Sorry mis read it. Thought you meant there was a bad episode where bald rock was same and he was childish and I wanted to know which one was that.

Being an old git, I come from a particular breed of fucked up human being who revelled in learning lines from the telly when video was a luxury. So when Not the Nine O'clock News came along and then the amazing Blackadder arrived, I would take pride in knowing lines from the night before.

Blackadder - to use a cliche - was a groundbreaker. It was almost an epic fail but for the faith that the Beeb kept with it. No one seems to like series one, but there are some notable moments in it; the Spanish infanta, the whitch smeller pursuant.

I can honestly say I love each of the 25 originally made equally.

Class.
