Gen z is having less sex.

Jump to newest

By *hagTonight OP   Man

From the land of haribos.

I read an interesting article about how gen z is having less sex than any other generations ever seen before and it mentioned that it is a trend that is set to continue, not stopping.

it also mentioned such things how social media is to blame for it and how many gen z couples would rather be doomscrolling for hours than to have sexy time.

I totally agree with that social media is the blame for it and that it would be hard to fix. I have an radical idea for it, how about a global media detox, or just limit the usage of it. I think that we would see things slowly returning on how it was.

It would be interesting to see what your view of it is, do you also agree that this downward spiral is due to social media and what do you think can be done to make it better?

I'm not sure they're less obsessed, more that it's in the palm of their hands.

I agree re social media op, a blessing and a curse.

Social media convince them to expect the best without getting any better... and then they're not good enough for each other 😁

If so it’s probably because they’re too busy standing outside the local town hall with a free Palestine placard.

I have to agree with you Op. Social media is the devil in decise. Young people have lost the art of traditional communication, they would rather DM each other then talk on the phone , don't get me wrong , social media has its uses , and yes it's brought people together. But it's now gone to far.

Has anyone ever stopped to think about the problems that Gen Z face compared to to say Gen X?

When I was in my 20s if I worked a bit of overtime and didn’t go out to the pub every night I could buy a nice little house and be mortgage free by my 30s.

Now the amount I would have paid for a house just about covers the deposit on the same house (hyperbole).

Young people are staying at home longer because rents are higher and wages have stagnated, but our generation still reduce how young people live to existing for Starbucks and protest, same as the boomers did with millennials and avocados same as every generation before, in the 60s young people were told to get a haircut and a job.

The world has changed and we are reluctant to see those changes, and can’t comprehend just how hard it is to be starting out in a world of social media, AI and the fallout from the financial crisis of 2008, buy to let mortgages and a housing market that favors investment firms over families.

When I was a young man starting out I had my own place, and had the kind of sex that you just couldn’t get away with in the box room while my parents were watching wheel of fortune.

So maybe it has nothing to do with protesting or bubble tea, maybe we, the older generations are “Cock blocking” a whole generation because we watched too much homes under the hammer.

Where are these pollsters getting their sampling from? How do they know this data is accurate?

I always wonder who's sponsoring these polls, durex or someone to scaremonger people into fucking more and buying more condoms?

I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. Most of this type of "research" has an agenda.

This is a great take. Couldn't have worded it better myself though as a millennial I feel some of this, the younger generation definitely have it worse.

People also forget wages were far lower and in the 80s interest rates were crazy high

On my meagre wages a 55k mortgage for a studio flat in west Drayton was massively out of reach people make out nippers today are hard up but we had no minimum wage back then so employers really took the piss.

There is alot of wieght behind plastics changing us now. Its messing with hormone levels and fertility.

Massive reduction in testosterone sperms count and concentration is all down to micro plastics and chemicals. New thing on Netflix called the plastic detox.

I’m not sure the one has anything to do with the other. If it was, then the older generations would be affected more. But that’s not what the research is showing.

I’m not sure it’s all social media, a big part is laziness. Watching porn used to be a mammoth exercise, not it’s just a click away on a device you’re already holding and it’s free.

I would say you were an exception I know very few people who could be mortgage free in their thirties by working a bit of overtime and staying out of the pub.

Depends on where you live, I live in the midlands, and in the early 90s the contrast in the north south (or in this case the midlands) divide housing market was huge, probably still is."

Yes. In the early 90s we were still recovering from 16% mortgage rates and negative equity.

"Has anyone ever stopped to think about the problems that Gen Z face compared to to say Gen X?

When I was in my 20s if I worked a bit of overtime and didn’t go out to the pub every night I could buy a nice little house and be mortgage free by my 30s.

Now the amount I would have paid for a house just about covers the deposit on the same house (hyperbole).

People also forget wages were far lower and in the 80s interest rates were crazy high

On my meagre wages a 55k mortgage for a studio flat in west Drayton was massively out of reach people make out nippers today are hard up but we had no minimum wage back then so employers really took the piss. "

I get your point but as I can only speak from the experience of being an adult in the 90s average wage was around £10k average house price was around £50k where as the average wage now is about 40k and average house prices are £270k we were confident that we would be able to live on the state pension didn’t have to take zero hours contract jobs, gig economy was how many pints of beer the owner of the venue would let your band have, and prices were lower.

I don’t see many £99 deposit and move in deals and social housing is just a cute thing we did once upon a time.

It’s a completely different world, and no amount of “we had to get up to change the channel” nostalgia is going to make it any easier for young people.

They sure don't but it seems it's all my generations fault that people can't afford houses now because we all bought our house for 2/6d and didn't drink coffee out

"Completely agree- even basic hotel room rates are expensive now. The cost of living will definitely be impacting younger people disproportionately and impacting their sex life.

But sex is free

Places for said sex aren't necessarily (fully aware of my avatar)."

It wasn't until I joined fab in my late 40s that I became aware of the phenomenon of booking a hotel room for sex.

However did people manage before this became a thing

And if youngsters did that someone would point out that they could buy a house if they didn’t spend all their money having sex in hotels

Not too sure sadly, too young to know the time before hotel rooms were used for sex.

Way to generalise an entire generation 🙄

Remember that the pre-internet generation of 40+ are the biggest snowflakes and most perpetually outraged of the lot.

It's either laugh or cry, and I realised that the key to my own mental happiness was to stop trying to reason with people online

What a crock of 💩 a lot of these comments are. As a parent of a couple of gen z's, I can assure you they do get up in the morning, work hard, aren't 'woke zombies' and don't expect or get anything handed to them on a plate!! Generalise much!!!

"I read an interesting article about how gen z is having less sex than any other generations ever seen before and it mentioned that it is a trend that is set to continue, not stopping.

it also mentioned such things how social media is to blame for it and how many gen z couples would rather be doomscrolling for hours than to have sexy time.

My view is that this is just fodder - fuck all but fodder.

NO GENERATION is getting sex on tap.

The people on HERE are not getting sex. There are thousands of threads that speak to that statement. Well most on here are getting sex going by videos lol

Talking of Gen Z and social media just sells.

I think to be fair to them they tend to be having more meaningful sex. Plus they tend to be far more open minded about sex and monogamy. Thus having more interesting sex lives. In a way they're a far more grown up generation (as much as we like to mock them). Probably because they're born into a world in which the future is more difficult with less free rides than before. Despite that we all think we're all the winners of generation hardship top trumps, their generation is truly fucked by the socioeconomic landscape they've been born into. They tend to be a generation that ain't in it unless the juice is worth the squeeze and I think that's feeding through to their sex life too. But don't be fooled, I think they are having some great sex when its worth it with the right people.

Mr
