Fabulous folk of the forum...

I've been listening to Radio X counting down (or maybe up as they started at the bottom) the top 500 Best of British tracks - as voted for by their listeners - and we've now hit number 400.

There have been some tracks in there that I can't recall ever hearing before, and some that I'm surprised didn't make a higher entry, but it got me thinking what my top 3 tracks by a British artist/band would be.

I honestly can't settle on just three. How about you guys and gals? I know there's a lot of music fans amongst you... What inspiration can you give me please?

Totally amazed by the tracks not even in the top 400 let alone top 50.

Guarantee it'll be all oasis bollocks in top 10

More Echo and the Bunnymen please 🙏

I couldn't give top three bands, let alone pick any one of a dozen songs from each of them!! So shooting from the hip, no 'thinking about it'....

The Beatles - a Day in the Life

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road

Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling into Place

Not sure about bands, but a single does come to mind Sinead O'Connor - nothing compares to you, even though it was actually written by prince.

Queen have to be up there, arguably the greatest band from the UK ever.

Erdington

Comfortably numb by Pink Floyd

Teardrop by Massive Attack

The Trooper by Iron maiden

But ask me again in a couple of days and it will probably be a different answer.

This is exactly my challenge - it wholly depends on my mood!

But how do you narrow it down to just one track from each?

Yep... That's my fear too. With the vote so soon after the reunion it's inevitable, right?

Nimrod ... It's classical but bloody amazing

There'll be some Beatles out there is possibly put on the list.

Number 1 ... It'll be Indie for me, relive a mispent youth. The Verve, the one they got done by the Rolling Stones for but eventually won because it turns out it was a sample of a sample of a sample.

I couldn't settle on three let alone predict who'll be in it. I bet it won't be REM, Pink Floyd, Nick Cave (yes I do know he hails from Australia) or any of the other British bands I like.

Trying to think which I truly think are the better tracks and what is just a more significant track to me so I've gone with the latter...

The Prodigy - for me No Good (Start the Dance), but could easily be many more from them

Pulp - Sorted for E's & Wizz, a brilliant track in a time dominated by Oasis v Blur

Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight, this gets in as I didn't just want it to be 3 songs by brit bands I like and this 1 never gets skipped and is a classic

'Under Pressure' would buy you a new choice! (and is a worthy tune for consideration in it's own right)

I think Bittersweet Symphony might well feature in my top three.

I agree that Paul Weller needs to make an appearance. I'm going to struggle to narrow it down to one track though. He's such an incredible songwriter.

And yes, Pulp might make it into my top 5, but I'm not sure they'll be top 3 though.

I was (and still am!) flip-flopping over whether to go with songs that had a significance in my life, or songs that I think are well written and memorable. It's an impossible choice.

This is why 'What's your favourite' lists are so difficult!! 😆 ...I watched 'High Fidelity' in the week, that highlights this very well!

Needless to say, I didn't actually vote in the poll that generated this post as I simply couldn't narrow down my choices!

Driving down the M6 for a couple of hours today...was a great listen on the radio. As you said ...some i've not heard in ages and some i'd think would be higher too!

mine...(although super hard to pick)

1. Stereophonics - Dakota

2. New Order - Blue Monday

3. Manic steet Preachers - From despair to where
