Guilty as charged! I just got blocked for sending a message that chat gpt helped me write!

I did edit and most of the sentiment was mine.

I must try harder

What are people’s views on a bit of help from AI?

Using ChatGPT to help write a message is generally a smart move—as long as you use it thoughtfully.

At its best, it’s like having a drafting partner: it can help you organize your thoughts, find the right tone, and avoid awkward phrasing. This is especially useful for things like:

Professional emails

difficult or sensitive conversations

messages where tone really matters (apologies, requests, etc.)

If you want, you can tell me what kind of message you’re working on and I’ll help you draft something that sounds natural and fits your situation.

It's not for me. Can understand why people do use it to a certain extent, still not for me.

Fair enough I’ve never used it before. Guess it could be taken as a lack of effort? I can string sentences together I think I might have been being a bit lazy 😂

Cheers, I did edit it quite a bit but clearly not enough. I’m a new user to AI always being very sceptical in the past!

I agree it can be a tool to help

I can't understand why some people may use it as a method to correct grammatic issues if English isn't their first language, but I don't subscribe to this type of approach when messaging.

If I want to talk to a bot I’ll talk to chatGPT myself. I assume any AI messages come from a boring man with no personality so I block them too

Thanks for the tip! That makes a lot of sense—using ChatGPT as a drafting partner could really help me get my thoughts across clearly, especially for tricky messages. I might take you up on that and have it help me with a message I’m working on.

If you want, I can also suggest a slightly shorter or more casual version that feels extra friendly. Do you want me to do that?

You're approaching it in a really good natured manner and I like that.

Yeah, you were being a bit lazy. 😅 But like I said before, I can understand why people use it. They might not feel as confident in their writing ability. Uncertain how to *appeal* to another person. Lazy. 😉 They might have difficulties so use it to help.

I really like reading a person's voice - mistakes happen and I'd choose those over the AI nonsense.

🤦‍♂️ I’m not that boring 😂😂 like I say lesson learned. It was only an introduction email as I know as a man it’s quite difficult to be heard. I don’t use it on a regular basis I do have banter and personality honestly!!

I dislike it very much. The first time it happened I didn’t realise, and thought it was actually a pretty decent message that appealed to my sense of humour - because AI had taken the humour within my profile and reflected it back at me. And I do make myself laugh! 😆

But it became obvious within a few further messages and they clearly couldn’t hold a conversation by themselves.

More and more people are using it and once you know what to look for it really stands out. Instant delete.

Yes, I agree. As bad as messages that say ‘hi/hey/howz u/meet now etc.

Every days a school day and lesson learnt. To be honest I’m actually very very very funny in real life anyway. I don’t need AI for that

Well I wrote a carefully considered profile as an update for '26 and was immediately shot down with the 'AI slop' accusations. Consequently I just stripped it back to nothing - I didn't use the technology, nor do I have the need to, but it does seem that detailed eloquence is now instantly suspicious to many. I work in a post-graduate environment where students constantly hand in work that now has to be verified, and so it can be tricky because not all AI detection engines work the same and many are very very wrong. Should AI be used for a profile though? I think if you utilise it as a sort of 'mood board' to help fashion a narrative and get the profile moving then yes; but don't simply copy and paste generated text- re-write the pointers and ideas it suggests and give it humanity- give it the 'you'.

Depends what for really, I’ve used it to prepare things like revision schedules and whatnot for my eldest. We used it a lot in my old workplace.

I wouldn’t use it for anything too important as it does make mistakes and unless you’re aware of the mistake it has made and correct it, you can look like a bit of a plonker.

Writing content would be the last thing I would use AI for, generally if someone needs AI to write content, they are not, no disrespect, sharp enough to know how to instruct an LLM to produce decent results.

I use it to help with business, increasing social media engagement etc, keywords for listings and so on.

It's also been very useful when looking into EHCP's Sen details, school adjustments and all that jazz.

And in more boring news it picked out some new skin care that sorted my perimenopausal skin out.

I wouldn't use it to write a message.

Large language model. The subset of artificial intelligence that most people mean when they say AI.

I think using AI is a bit naff. If you can’t string together a few words in the right order and say something of interest, you ain’t gonna get far even if you think you’re the most handsome alpha awesome guy on Fab.
