I want to give a shout out to all the step perents out there, you often get very little credit for what you take on in the name of love. And unless you have been one or been raised by one you can never understand what it's really like.

So thank you and keep up the good work.

My ex had two sons before we got together: they were 3 and 5. I treated them as my own and their mother and I got on well. When my eldest was in hospital aged 4, she bought her sons to visit their sister: I've never forgotten that.

Sadly their mum died in February. My three daughters, their husbands and partners all visited her in hospital and in the hospice and supported their brothers at her funeral.

The boys are 35 and 37 and come to dinner about once a month. I feel really proud when the boys just turn up. The three of us managed to raise five awesome kids: go us!

My daughter felt more for her step grandparents than she ever did for her real ones on her dads side. She said they always treated her like one of their own from the word go, and kids know who treats them right or not.

You don't always need a blood tie to love somebody.

I am a step dad for a girl & boy both now in their 30's what a pain in the rear the girl has been for the last 17 years. Needs a sharp lesson in respect for others around themselves

There should be a step parents day and I feel like the luckiest man on earth to have met someone who cares so much for my two lovely kids. She is a wonderful mum to them and has really helped the children cope after losing their mum at such a young age we are all blessed by such a lovely person.
