All day and everyday.

To put the cat amongst the pigeons or the shibari police amongst the non-shibari police, I note that you distinguished between "shibari' and "rope play"

As a general query, I am always puzzled that more people do not attend Peer Rope teaching, given the interest in rope bondage. Would it be said that people do not attend Peer Rope events because:

(a) Peer Rope events are non non sexual, therefore not of interest?

(b) Rope bondage will involve complicated knots, and be too mentally taxing?

(c) there are no Peer Ropes close?

(d) online videos and books are more convenient?

(e) the pictures of rope bondage make it seem non-inclusive (i.e. not many curvy people, men, or trans people in rope pictures)? Or

(f) another reason?

Maybe a better question to ask is what makes you attend your local peer rope event.

Generally, the local peer events aren't very good at advertising themselves, any groups linked to the event often have outdated information etc etc

They don't advertise very much either, so unless you know it's happening, you'll likely miss it.

Maybe if events were better advertise, on here especially, it might have more take up.

Burnleyish (She/They)

My local(ish) peer rope event sells out regularly, the reason I don't attend many events at all, (let alone rope specific) is due to a dynamic disability meaning if I buy a ticket, I am not guaranteed to attend..

Also so many places aren't wheelchair accessible.

I had the pleasure of watching an experienced rigger at work at a club, it was a thing of beauty. I have wanted to try being tied but worry that my size and dodgy joints would impact on the experience. I did pick up some rope recently and have started playing with some simple self ties at home but it isnt the same.

Totally agree, the hard fact is you need a good level of both trust and honesty for any meaningful chance of proper rope play. But it can be amazing when that trust is there.

It's not for the bruised ego driven Doms as patience and awareness is needed.

Aesthetics are important but it's way more than just how the final tie looks. Some find the process of being tied quite powerful, as one relaxes into the ropes, freely relinquishing control....

I've seen subspace achieved purely from being tied.

Rope play covers all areas, shibari or kinbaku are more specific and tend to be more aesthetically demanding than functional rope play. Is how I see it.

Thank you for your answer, and great question, but I am the wrong person to answer the question.

I have attended my local peer rope for ten years, but it is only a 10 minute drive. But for the first 5 years I also drove monthly from Surrey to Peer Rope London at Bethnal Green which was over an hour's drive, in addition I attended Anatomie Studio in its first site in Peckham.

I would drive from Surrey to attend workshops in Nottingham as it was the only place putting workshops that interested me.

I have had a passion for shibari since I saw my first demonstration I have been to many peer ropes around the home counties. Not to mention having a ridiculous amount of books and videos on shibari/rope bondage/rope, so I am not of the newbie mindset to answer the questions.

The above apply for me

My local rope class closed

The next nearest isn’t inclusive or accessible - despite what they say on their site I’ve spoken to too many who have attended to think otherwise.

Many other peer rope classes are for couples or pairs only… travelling out of area, means pairing up beforehand is even more unlikely

Travel expenses, hotel costs, safety as a solo woman, prejudice or ignorance over body type/disabilities, prejudice or ignorance from some over female riggers….. obviously this isn’t universal but it’s been something I’ve noticed since my local group closed

That used to be me... in fact my name on FL and IC (when it existed) was ropepuddle... because add rope = puddle.

Norwich ish

Fair to say it’s a yay from us

Still very much learning.

Always happy to chat rope and the normal conversation goes…..

“I’d be no good as I can tie all those knots”

To which I reply….

“You only need to know two, a bowline for a single column and a half hitch to finish most ties”

That often surprises them when I demonstrate something they thought was really complex is actually quite easy.

We have a lot of fun with rope. The time it takes gives a real connection, and M will drop into sub space while it is happening.

We can also have fun with it too when she is in a more bratty mood.

Yes but not nearly enough opportunity to experience it.

Being tied by someone who loves what they do and takes the time and attention to make sure it looks and feels exactly right is so erotic. It’s a very unique feeling.

For those who can’t get to peer rope groups or prefer learning at home I recommend a free online course called Crash Restraint. You’ll find it if you search those two words and shibari on the inter web.

Lots of building block tutorials, safety considerations, rope guides and lots of ties to follow from easy videos.

Also YouTube can be quite good.

It’s not for anyone that hasn’t undertaken training.

I have and still won’t engage with someone who isn’t trained themselves. It’s as much for their safety as it is for mine.

Love it, it’s not even sexual at this point, I love the way experts get rope to interact with human anatomy, we’re all different shapes and sizes and how they get every knot to line up perfectly is truly fascinating.

I lean more towards hojojutsu, my own flavour i've been developing for about 29 years give or take, but hojo, shibari or kinbaku...can't really hate it, its just a part of who I am.

I have dabbled with peer groups and workshops over the last ten years. A little online too. Books ect self tie mostly, couple of socials with riggers. But I've been tied by someone else the grand total of 4 times ever and assaulted twice. So 50/50 is crap odds

This year I've done nearly 1000miles just for 2 workshops at the wrong end of the country 😂

I get the ick with the constant assumption I'm female therefore a bunny and therefore not wanting to learn anything intresting.

Just how to nerve check and sit within inches of someone else. I want to tie, I want to play and switch and connect.

Overall, I want a sensual connection and up North it's mostly 'take down', aggressive feeling approach to tying.

I dislike the consent and negotion convo amounting to 'can I tie you' and that's it 😂

This year I'm leaning into self tie more and picking it up more regularly. Which means every room in the house now has rope in it

I've learnt I can focus in on my own, like entering 'space' under my own spell as it were...

I can meet my own needs without putting any risk on myself, or waiting to meet someone who also wants to learn.

I'm simply not willing to trust someone who doesn't even own rope, so fab is a perpetual disappointment

I still think a rope social would be a fun way to break that touch barrier in getting to know someone.

Bath ish

I have been using rope for more years than I care to admit

Before the internet made the art popular and a vast number of ‘experts’

Do make sure any rigger you decide to’ tie’ has the knowledge and a set kf safety cutters Where thy can Access them and not hidden in the bottom

Of a bag - Done right rope is amazing and suits most enhancing in may ways in its basic form while providing a range of sensory enhancement for

More advanced experiences

Play safe and sound
