Me too. When you could purchase one for a pound singly....I had two as a birthday present over a couple of years but never won a bean....

At the risk of stating the obvious, it's about luck.

A pal put some of the equity from his house into premium bonds till he needed the money back and made about 22% return over 2 years.

Not bad going.

They do say its not a great return but yes I have quite a few . Win £25 most months last year I got a £500 and a £100 also. My first big ones in 30 odd years. I shall keep them I like the surprise.

I have had them a few years now and had four £25 wins last year and have had another £25 this year, still waiting for the big win ha ha, it is basically a big raffle ticket draw so unlike the lottery, the more tickets you have the better your chances are of wining, I left it to late to take out a private pension, so my game plan is to keep buying them and not cash them in and hope for a nice big win at some point, fingers crossed

Had on £25 win a couple of years ago, when had a couple of hundred in there. Nothing since.

If you push to the £30k limit then likely to win a lot more often.

Looking at moving ISA money across as they make so little these days.

According to their bumf, they tell you if you win (assuming you've kept them up to date with addresses etc). You can also register to have any win paid into a nominated bank account.

I bought £100 worth about 15 years ago after seeing on teletext someone who had that amount win the £1,000,000 ,,,

needless to say I m not letting my win change me,,

All £25 ,,,

I have a bit of money invested in them and I'm getting a better return on them than if I'd of got a ISA as I keep getting small £50-£100 wins (which I re-invest in more bonds). My kids have ones in there names too. Well worth it in my opinion

oh yes you should check your bonds you could be rich lol, no time limit on claiming prizes, if you have a holders number just go to the website and put it in the prize checker and it will search for your prizes, if not you will have to contact them

this day and age that is a brilliant return!"
anything is better than cash sitting in the bank these days with the interest rate next to nothing, I wish I had more spare cash to invest into bonds

The total value of prize money paid to Premium Bond investors from August 1 is reducing. The "prize rate" - the average return on the whole fund - will drop from 1.5pc of the total invested to 1.3pc

+ you can no longer buy premium bonds at the post office for cash money.

but can still buy them at the Post Office.....I just use my switch card every month when I go in and buy them.....just had another £25 cheque so my return is still currently running at a higher rate than the bank can give me

Just invested £30k in premium bonds.

As posted above I had two separate £1 bonds as birthday gifts from my parents. At the end of June I went to my local Post Office to apply for more. I queried at the counter whether I could apply for £30k on this occasion or whether my maximum holding could be this amount. The counter staff didn't know so I applied for the whole amount which went through. Two weeks later I was refunded the whole amount as I already held £2 worth.

So I had to go through the whole process again but reducing my application by £2. It means that I will miss the August draw as a whole calendar month has to pass before your bonds are eligible to be drawn.
