Starwars the original without Lucas add-ons. As a youngster, it was a game changer for my friends and me. Still recall sitting amazed at the opening sequence.

Jaws.

I saw it when I was ten and I went through all sorts of emotions during the film and afterwards after seeing it.

It has a true three act structure, we learn about Brody (our main protagonist) the town and even how brutal this shark is, in the first act.

Second act we see failures from our protagonist, other people in the town and how the issue of this one shark escalates with more deaths and lack of action.

Third act we get the action, guilt, greed and professional interest from our now three protagonists each have to face a hardened beast that’ll show no mercy.

Both of my sons watched it with me (both older than ten) and they agreed it was one hell of a film.

I have read the book as well and the film (for a change) is far superior.

Agreed, probably the best twist at the end of a movie ever. Shame the main character turns out to be a real life rapist. But as a film, it pulls you into the story and starts the legend of Kaiser Sose!

My personal favourite is the original Godfather. The book is even better than the movie. It delves into the background of the characters enriching them in a gritty and realistic way.

It's commonly regarded as the best gangster movie of all time. Even though it's over 50 years old, even a genius like Martin Scorsese hasn't been able to better it.

Inside your head

The first 2 Godfather movies are in Empire magazines top 5 movies of all time every year they have their poll

Although based on Mario Puzo’s book, Puzo draws his inspiration from reality in that the character Vito Corleone almost mirrors the life of Carlo Gambino

The Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco are true biopics of the lives of Henry Hill and Joseph Pistano the movies let them down by straying from the actual truth.

"Alien is still my favourite movie, so many layers. "

If the question were my favourite cinema experience?? Alien would win, hands down.

FB and I went to an anniversary screening years ago.

Tho I'd seen the film many times before on tv.. the feeling being sat in darkness , feeling - let alone hearing that constant engine thrumming surrounding you like a dark blanket, while you have that pants shitting terror right in your face..

Peak experience 👌

Alen is my favourite as well. I first saw it on release at my local cinema. Lat year i bought the 4k HDR blue ray. The blue ray though has the whole uncensored film (unlike the Uk release back in the day). A remarkable film for it's time and still even now can evoke fear for how realistic it is.

Spacey was found ‘not guilty’ by UK courts, on all nine counts, as well as ‘not liable’ by US civil courts; so unless you’re alluding to someone else or have knowledge we don’t, perhaps just admire his work rather than impugn

He’s superb in Usual Suspects, American Beauty and totally owned House of Cards, regardless of Netflix cancelling his award winning performance.

Scott’s directors cut is the only worthy version as it allows the storytelling to build perfectly; it’s an epic film and arguably his best work.

Went under the radar at the time given Bloom is a little wooden, that said, the performances around him more than make up for his one dimensional prose, plus the cinematography is superb.

Malcolm. An Australian film from early 80's that nobody has ever heard of, but its stonewall classic.

We're all possibly confusing good films we love with 'the best film ever', but some of my favourites have been mentioned above - Se7en, Fight Club, Shawshank, Jackie Brown, Back to the future etc, and I'll add Police Academy, Airplane or National Lampoon's Vacation as comedy golds.

Try 'The Dish' too if you like Australian dry humour. Highly recommend

Perpignan and cap

I only keep half a dozen DVDs and they're all awesome in different ways.

Jaws (obviously).

Buffalo 66.

Dawn of the dead (the original).

Heat.

Monty python the life of Brian.

2012 (it's so super crap that it's good).
