A lot of "On the buses" was filmed in the Enfield area of North London.

There's an old stately home near me (Cobham Hall) and that has been used in quite a few period pieces, the most well-known probably being the adaptation of Bleak House the BBC did a few years back, which starred Gillian (X-Files) Anderson.

So I understand, the most frequently used (for different productions) film and TV location in the country is the Maritime Hospital in Greenwich. You see that pop up in all sorts of period dramas, including the recent Les Miserables. It has an intact Georgian street which is on private land so it's like it's locked in a time warp - hence it's appeal to film directors.

Emergency Bikers had parts of it filmed in Birmingham especially around the city centre. Probably the closest to Wolverhampton any TV programme will get filmed apart from maybe Crimewatch lol!

The house they lived in was in Redland bristol

Also Nelson Mandela house in Only fools is in Lawrence Weston in Bristol

The "hotel" was somewhere in Berkshire. Burnt down in the 70's or 80's.

Keeping up appearances was filmed in Coventry.

Steptoe and Son was filmed only about a quarter of a mile from the bbc at White City. All gone now under the westway.

Far from the madding crowd, was filmed in Devizes !

A few odd scenes filmed around the area,

Still crazy filmed around Avebury and in the red lion pub .

A few episodes of time team done round here too, Avebury, Stonehenge , woodhenge , Kennet long barrow,

Not much happens around here !

Bad boys army was filmed just over the hill from me, my mate worked on the camp they used for filming. Said it was all bollocks ! Proper set up ! There were caterers in and everything, fully stocked bar that kept running out , all edited to look serious but it was a big jolly ! Laughed my ass off at one episode where the narator said that the lads had just returned after a gruelling 5 hour slog across the Salisbury plain, yeah, right into the local pub ! About two miles from camp, they staggered back to camp and had to re shoot the scenes the next day after they had sobered up !!

A lot of the original Get Carter was filmed beside us - Gateshead, North Blyth, Lynemouth.

More recently there were some very famous people (I'm not much into films so I cannot remember who they were) making part of a movie on Holy Island which is just up the road from us

An Episode of Spender was filmed on Ashington Main Street - the episode where a car ramraided a shop

Stella is filmed around llanbradach near Caerphilly for the funeral parlour, shop used to sell fires and plaster coving hence the ornate plasterwork everywhere and Bryn Meadows golf club in Pontllanfraith, oh and the chandelier scene in only fools and horses where they dropped one was in claysmore school in Dorset, apparently I'm told they actually dropped the real old expensive one, headmaster there also was the owner of the original dulux dog

last of the summer wine was also filmed in Marsden and Slaithwiate due to the high numbers of tourists in "summer wine country" making filming difficult . slaithwaite and Marsden were also used for where the heart is

The majority of carry on films were made st Pinewood Studios. That's why you can recognize the same buildings slightly changed in diffrrent films.

In carry on abroad when they are boarding the coach, that was filmed on Slough High St , although it is unrecognizable today.

A lot is filmed near Belfast too - the cast stay at the Europa hotel.

Brideshead revisited (the original tv version) used castle Howard in north Yorkshire for Brideshead.

Alnwick castle stands in for bits of hogwarts.

And both the full monty and the history boys were filmed in sheffield.

Trellick towers is still there. It's a listed building so can't be bulldozed. It's an ugly looking thing though.

Film wise, a lot of the recent Captain America was filmed around Dale St in Manchester city centre, Manchester town hall doubled as parliament in The Iron Lady.

The chippy /street scenes in East is East were filmed in Openshaw, Manchester and have all since been levelled. The cinema in Bradford in the film is in Ashton Under Lyne and is now an amusement arcade.

The film Yanks was filmed in the Saddleworth villages + mossley + stalybridge on the outskirts of Manchester.

They now have an annual Yanks weekend which is well a trip for anyone interested in the music, style or fashions of that era or simply like militaria and a good old fashioned party / knees up

"Vera" was part filmed at a place not far from us called Eshott. Mrs Red knows the woman who owns the house which the film company 'borrowed' to do the shoot. The woman actually lived there, it was her home and she reckons that after the shoots were complete, the film company were a pack of bastards ....... Just goes to show

Now filmed around the Cardiff area as the new studios are on Roath Dock. A very good friend of mine does the studio lighting and has told me of a few funnies that have happened.

My parents own the house right next door to the pub that 2000 acres of skye was filmed in.

Their house is immediately litetally right next door to the pub.

They rent it out. I want to live there myself one day..I love it!!

Billy Elliot, some of it was filmed at Lynemouth Colliery and also shows the now closed Alcan Smelter - just 5 minutes from where we live

And the 'hotel' in Fawlty Towers was nowhere near Torquay. It was a golf club somewhere near Weybridge, Surrey if memory serves.... ?

Bourne End in Buckinghamshire, the building was fairly close to Enid Blytons house

The "hotel" was somewhere in Berkshire. Burnt down in the 70's or 80's.

Keeping up appearances was filmed in Coventry.

Steptoe and Son was filmed only about a quarter of a mile from the bbc at White City. All gone now under the westway.

the film The Holiday with Jude Law and Cameron Diaz was filmed around Shere and Godalming, near Guildford.

Parts of The Omen were also at Guildford Cathedral and Brookwood cemetery

and there used to be a tv advert that Fry and Lawrie did for the Alliance & Leicester that was filmed in Guildford High Street
