"I'm a swim teacher, I teach to all ages. what kind of swimming? pool? open water? " Pool. My technique is terrible, so that may be part of the lack of enjoyment I suppose.

"I'm assuming you swim in a local pool that's roped off and you go up and down up and down up and down ..... with all the other miserable fuckers...... try and get into a public swim where it's not roped off with everyone mindlessly going up n down up n down .... you can stop when you want, swim underwater, flip onto your back , tread water and generally piss about ... much more fun than going up n down up n down up n down" That’s exactly what it is. Monotonous and boring. Not often I stay beyond my 30 minute session.

My pool does public swims and I go to those if I can. Check if yours does them. What is wrong with your technique - according to you ?

Let’s just say there are a lot of moving parts, without much actual motion. Up until the tail end of last year I’d never really swam, and couldnt do breaststroke at all. So took it upon myself to try it, I think I Probaly do my own version of it now, but everyone zooms past me in the lanes. As I say, I’d get an A for effort and energy out in, but nought much else 🤷♂️

"I'm a swim teacher, I teach to all ages. what kind of swimming? pool? open water? Pool. My technique is terrible, so that may be part of the lack of enjoyment I suppose." Watch some videos on technique if you can’t get to a club. Easiest things to work on to improve quickly is stop kicking as much. Work on 2-beat kicks which is two kicks for every stroke. Your legs take so much energy and give very little propulsion Bilateral breathing so breathe on both sides, alternating every 3 strokes. Body rotation, snapping your hips can do so much of the work for you which saves energy and gives forward propulsion

All it means is BODY, LEGS , ARMS, BREATHING , TIMING - practise one at a time when you go to the pool. They will eventually all come together like magic. It might sound daft but lie on the kitchen table and practise ( or a low bench if you have one ) Use YOU TUBE to learn blabt through watching others Good luck

Any hints or tips to make it more enjoyable?" Once you get your fitness up, you can make it more interesting by breaking it up doing timed sets and drills, working on stroke technique. Trying to beat previous times it's endless to be honest.

Any hints or tips to make it more enjoyable?" I haven’t seen it mentioned in the thread, but I had some lessons a couple of years ago with a Total Immersion coach. It’s a really effortless style and has helped made swimming more enjoyable for me. There’s plenty of videos on YouTube. Similar to some others, I much prefer open water swimming🌊
