Quite like Gary Oldman, Stephen Grahame and Robert de Niro as they are good actors unlike The Rock, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Statham who just seem to play themselves in a one dimensional role in every bloody film they're in.

Interesting thread this one . You can almost tell the age of the person by their choice of actor . In my opinion there hasn't been a decent actor in the last 30 years . My choice is Paul Newman , he never made a bad movie .

Paper Town Central, Essex.

Male, has to be Laurence Olivier

Female, Katherine Hepburn.

These are for versatility though.

Tom Hanks is a superb actor and one day will hit the top of the tree, and, Sigourney Weaver for the ladies.

But please, not Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson or Madonna...

Although never at the top of people's thoughts, never seen a bad Gene Hackman film.

We think one of the best ways to assess an actor is to see them out of their normal role, for example:- Tom cruise in tropic thunder, Hugh Grant in the gentleman both were excellent and not characters you'd expect. In fact didn't even recognise Tom cruise until saw his name on the credits. Even Dwayne Johnson in the gridiron gang, showed a bit more depth to his portfolio.

Costa Blanca Spain...

Very difficult (nay impossible) to name only one.

I'll start on our side of the pond.

My favourites would include but not limited to.

Olivier, O'Toole, Caine, Hopkins, Oldman, Burton, Guinness, Reed, Hurt, Day Lewis. From the ladies, Smith, Dench, Mirren, (Beryl) Read.

I'll give a special mention to John Thaw. A bit stereotyped in his early days but matured well with age. From Jack Regan to Mr Tom.

Across the pond.

Hanks, Pacino, Stewart, De Niro, Lancaster, Brando, Duvall and if I had to give a number one it would probably go to Peck. To Kill a Mockingbird was awesome. From the ladies, Streep, Midler (yes really) Katherine Hepburn, Davis.

Inside your head

Movie trivia

What actor only made 5 movies but was nominated for a Golden Globe in 3 of them

The Godfather 1 and 2

Deerhunter

Dog Day Afternoon

John Cazale taken too soon. For me his part

As Fredo Corleone outdid Brando, Pacino, Caan and Di Niro

Nobody mentioned Tom Cruise……..I know I hate the wee pleb as well as

So many great stars of the silver screen to name, I mentioned Cazale because of the fact he was nominated in more or less every movie he was in.

Actresses I would always go with Helen Mirren, Julia Roberts, Diane Keaton

I’m giving my age away

There are one or two honourable mentions to the young uns

I specifically like Jake Gyllenhall this guy is like amazing and what he puts himself through between movies

Anne Hathaway seems to have been around for years, just watched The Devil Wears Prada today and her and Glenn Close were outstanding
