No more for me. Certain circumstances have changed meaning I no longer require the consumption to get through the night. I do think it has affected my ability to sleep though. Barely slept last night so eyes are burning and heavy, struggling to keep them open all day yet been laid in a bed since 6pm and still unable to sleep.

It might take time to adjust. Drink water. Develop a new routine that doesn't involve alcohol. All the best mate. 👍🏾

Sober 7+ years here.

Sleep is a habit and you'll get there.

If you've been boozing at night, you've been knocking yourself out, so probably lost the sleep skills you need to get a good night.

They'll come back and you'll feel better.

Big glass of milk or 2 afore bed always helps me sleep, not sure if it’s true but apparently an amino acid present in milk stimulates hormones that help fall asleep

Don't quote me on it, but I think magnesium is supposed to help

Congrats man. You’ll be surprised how quickly your mood and habits change after stopping alcohol

Please please be careful if you are stopping abruptly from drinking at a dependent level (10u/day).

I think I may have recently lost the option to drink.

It's been a long time coming.

Give it a week or 2 at most. Big brain will learn pretty quickly it doesn't need booze to sleep, and other nighttime routines are available.

It does suck balls during that transition tho.

I only drink once a month now but my sleep has gone to hell.

Reading books is pretty much the only thing that passes the time and tires my brain out a little sooner. Average a book every two days now as takes a lot more to tire my thoughts out.

Alcohol is a natural sedative, and does help to get to sleep. But it then disrupts your sleep pattern, reducing the time in deep sleep etc, resulting in feeling hungover tired the next morning. Someone earlier said milk helps, it does, there is research confirming that. Adding horlicks or ovaltine can help, reducing hunger overnight. I think ovaltine has more magnesium, which helps.

I hope all works well for you. My understanding is that it is not sleep that happens when we have consumed alcohol but lack of conciousness due to alcohol. which is why when we 'wake up' or recover from a drink we feel fucked.
