Should they make into a film?

I've just watched the trailer for the new Masters of the Universe film, which was a cartoon and a shit film when I was a kid. And it looks like it might be a shit film when I'm an adult too.

Well largely because for the most part it was a shit cartoon too. As a kid I was a huge fan but it really is not all that good. They were essentially just a way to make toy sales.

It's going to be a moderately decent/average action movie aimed at a younger audience but easily enjoyable enough by any age group. Fueled by nostalgia.

Any cartoon made in to a live action movie is going to be shit, in the eyes of adults especially. It's never going to live up to the expectations of adults that want the nostalgia feel.

And Hollywood checkboxes getting in the way and poor attempts at writing good scripts are few and far between these days.

I mean there are only 2 big mainstream 80s cartoons they have not made in to live action - Thundercats and Captain Planet (though the Don Cheadle short spoof was funny).

I think they should make a Dungeons and Dragons film that's based on the 80s cartoon. There was a nod to it in one of the recent D&D films, so could be in the same universe.

"Never got why Thundercats wasn't made into a film..."

The cost!

It's the same as asking why we are just getting a SECOND Masters of the Universe film where most of the action takes place on Earth.

As with the expense of doing a live-action version of He-Man set completely on Eternia a live-action Thundercats is just too expensive, with sets, make-up, costumes and CGI probably costing upwards of 200 million, and it's a gamble as to if enough people will bother watching it.

The best you can hope for is a CGI-animated film.

I always viewed The Great Race with Jack Lemmon as Professor Fate (basically Dick Dastardly) as a live action version of Wacky Races. In fact Hanna Barbara said the film influenced thier cartoon.

Likewise, Those Magnificent Men in thier Flying Machines was Catch the Pigeon.

"Attack of the killer tomatoes"

The films came first, the last three ("Return of...", "Strike Again" and "...Eat France") having most characters later used in the cartoon series.

A new Killer Tomatoes film has recently been finished, and STILL has 90+ John Astin (from the films and the cartoon) as Professor Gangrene!

One outfit came very close to getting a feature-film of Bananaman made, but it seemed to be a scam, and it's said that investor's money was pocketed and they pissed off with the lot. It's left the whole thing in legal limbo.

There isn't much luck with the property, as The Goodies got screwed when they did the animated series in the 80s. They were let down by the quality of the scripts and animation, calling it the worst thing they ever did. There was also talk that The Goodies got screwed out of money and royalties on it, too.

😂😂 I can concur that having also just watched the trailer to the new, Masters Of The Universe film, it truly does look utterly shite. Prince Adam is now on earth(?!) Typical Hollywood bollocks; just throw CGI at it and hope that no one notices that it’s but a turd adorned with a pretty ribbon.

I’m always think that ‘Balamory’ (ok not from my own childhood but that of my children) and ‘The wicker man’ have a good overlap

Somewhere In The Ether…

Rosie & Jim: The Movie.

In true Hollywood style, the studio executives will doubtless insist on shitting all over the source material and we’ll end up with the Old Ragdoll canal boat mounted with 50 calibre machine guns which our hero’s fire against alien zombie sharks which have taken over the river bank….or some such thing.

It’s been rebooted with new episodes coming this year.

South leeds

Terrahawks. But without Windsor Davies' voice, it wouldn't be the same.

Thundercats would be great. Cheetara was strangely sexy.

If anyone remembers Round the Bend with croc and thunderpants, that would make a great comedy.

Somewhere In The Ether…

How about a Bod movie?

You all remember Bod?

It could be an origins story; I mean, what the hell was Bod??!! It looked suspiciously alien like as I recall. The film could depict how Bod escaped from captivity in Area 51 after crash landing in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947….

Perpignan and cap

I've got an idea but can't give away my secret.

Perhaps art attack with Neil Buchanan as a master forger copying the Mona Lisa and swapping it for the original?
