Why I hate summer

It's too bloody hot, too many bloody kids screeching in the back gardens, on the street, and every-bloody-where, the sun right in my face on the way into work, and right on my face on the way home from work. Too hot and uncomfortable at work. Every bloody winged insect treats me like a free buffet, too hot to sleep without windows open, thus providing a midnight snack for aforementioned bloody winged insects. Sweaty armpits, an abundance of unattractive exposed flesh, flip-flops on unwashed feet. and did I mention the screeching kids?

I hate the bloody summer. Am I alone in this?

I am fortunate that I live in a very small, quiet avenue - no kids. I have large powerful fans and can fold back the 7 foot bi-fold doors in my kitchen so the entire wall is open to my garden - and being open-plan it lets a lovely breeze through the house. Blinds keep out the bugs. I also have air-con in the car so can keep the windows up.

I burn like a bugger but love the warmer weather - cheers me up no end.

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

The summer solstice occurs when the tilt of a planet's semi-axis, in either the northern or the southern hemisphere, is most inclined toward the star (sun) that it orbits. Earth's maximum axial tilt toward the sun is 23° 26'. This happens twice each year, at which times the sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the north or the south pole.

I am not keen on the hot and sunny weather either, as I don't like to be hot and bothered.

When it is cold, I can add more layers.

However, when it is hot, I can't exactly go out and about naked!

You lot will be doomed then if I ever get hold of that weather remote... Mind you, it'd be so hot all year round that we'd be in drought and the crops would dry, but hey ho.

It'd be MY remote.

June is summer. March, April and May are Spring (which is amusing when it snows in April, but no-one ever said British weather made sense).

West Wales and Cardiff

I like summer, but somehow feel I "belong" in other times if the year.

A line in the great song "Acadian Driftwood" by The Band sums me up:

"Set my compass north, I've got winter in my blood".

Basically, I love the seasons - all of them.

No it's not summer yet!!!

Each year, the timing of the solstice depends on when the Sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator. This occurs annually on June 20 or June 21 in North America, depending on your time zone.

Summer begins in the Northern Hemisphere on June 21, 2013, at 1:04 A.M. (EDT).
