A local council in Madrid have come up with a novel idea with dealing with irresponsible dog owners.

Twenty volunteers are picking up dog poo and are posting the offending article to the owners marked Lost Property.

Surprisingly incidences of people not clearing up after their dogs have dropped by 70% so it seems to be working.

What a great idea.

"Ok I'll bite.....

All dogs in this region have to be on a database. They send the poo of to a lab and it determines the breed and age of the dog and its cross referenced with the database.

I kid you not.

Sounds great but I wonder if it's cost effective.

I think it is a short term project to make dog owners aware of their responsibilities.

Then that's to be applauded....would be great to see it introduced in this country.

I did this years ago, a woman who lived up the road often let her dog crap outside our property, never cleaned it up and thought that it was acceptable.

I only had to post it through her letterbox twice, that sorted that problem out.

now they are trying to make all dog owners have their dogs chipped to keep track of them and the owners so i dare say keeping a dna sample from the dog one time for database wouldn't be difficult

The reason I don't have a dog is that I can't bare the thought of picking up shit in a sandwich bag! However the road from my house to town is always covered in dog shit so id happily pitch in and post some back thru the letter boxes of the mucky feckers that don't clean up after to their animals!! Hopefully the bags burst and they've got white carpet!!

Ok not human shit, as I tend to use the toilet, don't know what you lot do round the fens but my pooch has stood in her own a few times

If I have to pick dog shit up then so should everyone else! I used to use 2 carrier bags as I hated feeling the warm poo in the poo bags.

I have also carried kitchen roll and a bottle of water on a walk for when she had the runs so I could wipe it up or rinse it away.

I used to dry heave when I first got her but I also did that over shitty nappies

Not difficult but expensive.

What ever happened to police on beat telling people to pick it up.
