A true reflection!

The more I read the forums the more I realise that this is a place where genuine people like to post about interesting topics. (well generally)

I have noticed a number of people like to put some fun posts up which I enjoy to read.

What I find disappointing is the number of people who are intentionally giving people grief and causing a stir!! I have started to block these people as I would not like to meet any of these people with a personality trait such as theirs!

Yet mostly in their profiles they have such comments as friendly, don't take life too seriously, etc.

I have decided a good way to look for people is in the forums and read their post replies. Profiles are just lies and what people want to hear! A true reflection of there personality is when they reply to a post they have an interest in.

I would not want to meet aggressive, abusive people in real life!

I don't know , I like winding people up , especially pompous know alls , and after a tedious day at work it can be fun.

It's a good way of letting off steam .

"amazing how many describe themselves as one thing and turn out to be the other

i dread to imagine what some think of me.. its all down to personal perception though. ive been here a while though so im guessing regular readers would have a pretty balanced view of me. if a person only contributes on ranty days and the person reading the posts are in a foul mood guess you can only go on first impressions

I'm not on the forums looking for meets so I'm not bothered either way.

Don't take any of it seriously, people can be very different in real life to how they are on the forums in both a good and bad way

Sometimes reading text loses the whole context of what someone is trying to say and just because they may disagree or debate strongly with forum members or just come in to be cheeky or take the piss is could have no bearing at all with what they're like in real life

Its just a forum

People tend to read text in the mood THEY ARE feeling so can completely miss what is actually being said. The forums are just another way of communicating. Not everything you read is black and white and to be fair, ppls posts only reflect a little of a persons personality..

I tend to read more than I post. I usually say things that make me laugh but sometimes post on a heavy topic (have a picture in my head of a huge Cadbury hazelnut bar now - an insight to my mind). I've learned the hard way not to get dragged in to saying something I shouldn't.

Let's not forget the "I can go all night" on their profile and in reality its wam bam thank you mam

Or the "I'm friendly and respectful" on their profile only to get abuse when rejected

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I tend not to take the forums too seriously, as if someone posts something small minded or trollish its usually the only way they get noticed. However I have blocked people whose comments on the forums have been racist, misogynistic, prejudiced, or just plain mean. If someone makes me feel uncomfortable on here, they're not the kind of person I want to meet.

I just go for saying things as I see them! I work on the premise of if people don't like me or my slightly warped sense of humour then that's their loss not mine!

The forums are the best thing on fab and I've met some incredible friends through them.

The longer you're here, the more difficult it becomes to ignore the cynical voice in your head when you read the same old topics over and over which is perhaps why some people come over badly.

You also remove expression and tone so things can be read out of context although that's not necessarily how they're written.

From my first posting on forums, before pressing submit I use the preview button so that I can read it back and see how it sounds. I'm not here to be offensive... I like humour better.

Doing homework on people's forum posts is never a bad thing, you can gauge far more about someone by what they write on a forum than what they'll write in a private message to attempt to impress their reader. Generally that's not the train of thought for most people when writing a forum post.

Ditto.

I only tend to block people who are really nasty.

I'm not looking for meets, but its just a reminder to me to rise to their bait.

Forums are fun and interesting, and I have learned a lot from them.

Sometimes my posts can be misinterrpruted but that is my own doing from not writing clearly.

The more posts people do the more of an idea you get about the person in reality.

However, there are some forumites I have chatted to in PM and occasionally a few come across totally different 1-1. Still lovely, but different at the same time.

Remember OP just mere words on a screen, "real life" and how you conduct yourself is far more important and worth worrying about imo

i dont think you can realy know what a person is like until you meet them though. you cant always tell how serious a person is being by what they say on the internet.

Yes i understand that this is a screen and how you conduct yourself in real life is far more important. What I would like to add is that 'the screen' text is the only way to gauge a person on a site like this!! Therefore it is important for me to see how people interact with said screen

Indeed but I think you will find it misleading as many people create/have a persona online which may not be a true representation of their real character. The only way to truly tell is by meeting them.

One of my bosses and the Director of Personnel did suggest to me once that it might be a good idea if I sent any letters to certain individuals, groups, government departments to them first before sending. I had noooo idea why!

I do think over time you can get a better idea from people's postings than you can from their profile.

If all you want from a meet is 'NSA fuck and forget' it may be of little importance.

If, however, you wish to connect in some way (which can still be NSA) and possibly socialise and have repeat meets, then there are just a few people who I clearly would not wish to meet at all.

This works both ways, the attitudes and political stances I take on various topics will flag me up as a particularly liberal (nice and caring) sort of guy

Not everyone's cup of tea! Ha Ha!
