Car Boot sale

Need to sell loads of stuff and dont fancy the hassle of e bay so do you think a car boot sale is the next best thing

Im told people want things for nowt so not so sure as we have some pretty good stuff

Wonder if we could have a garage sale on the driveway

Any suggestions please

Stick to your prices. I found non English people to be very aggressive hagglers, to the point of picking up goods, dumping 20p on the table and trying to walk off. He didn't do it again.

Cheeky sods

Might look into setting one up and see how it goes

Really need a good clear out

Loads of hubbys electrical stuff hanging around the house so need to de clutter

Car boots are okay, my daughter and I have done quite a lot. You need to be aware of how much you charge; good stuff needs to be priced higher ie Next stuff higher than Primark, for example. Price it slightly higher then go down but do set a price that you wouldn't drop below as some people do take the piss. We pay about £7 entry but have easily covered that on most occasions, sunny is much better than rain as that was a complete wash out. Even gale force winds didn't hamper some but the rain does. Clothes are not the most fantastic sellers though designer is probably better. Try not to buy food whilst you are there as that eats into your profit

Be prepared for the vultures that try to rummage through your stuff while you are setting up.

Reverse haggling is fun though

"How much for this?"

"50p"

"I'll give you 30"

"Sorry, 75p"

"But you said 50p, I'll give you 50p"

"No it's a £1 now"

The look of confusion is priceless

Then somebody said he'd give me 50p for it so I took it. I thought the original woman was going to go ballistic

Few yr ago my house was burgled and some sentimental family stuff was stolen as well as tv etc.

I went to local car boot and found the stuff thankfully.

I will not say exactly what i did to the bloke concerned except to say he could not break into houses for a while.

If you have loads of electrical stuff don't expect decent prices unless you have a generator/ inverter so you can show them working.If they use batteries charge them or have new ones to show working.Anything recently PAT tested is a bonus or in the original box.

Be realistic on prices.Try not to think how much you bought it for but look at how much you can buy a similar item for now ( many items sell for less new than they did a few years ago with cheap imports and value shops) As people won't pay more than they could get a new one for.

Don't go stupidly low first thing as these people are often dealers or seasoned boosters buying to re-sell themselves.

People will pay huge amounts for the smallest and daftest of things but will begrudge paying decent money on high value goods.

Lots of cheaper little things will make you more money if people are interested in the items. Remember not everyone goes around the boot sale with more than a couple of notes and loose change.

Picking a car boot sale in an affluent area in good weather will give you lots of competition ....but better customers too with more buying power, so rural car boots are often better than inner city ones.

Have fun but be careful not to start buying stuff and bringing back more than you took to sell
