And they say women and cars don't mix !!!...................

Driving to work this morning there was a rather strange knocking sound coming from the engine...............decided to stop and take a look under the car and under the bonnet, my business partner was stood there scratching her head, we couldn't see anything stuck under the car and nothing obvious loose under the bonnet !!!

Decided to rock the car and see if we could hear the noise - had a very good laugh when we discovered it was a large lump of ice in the windscreen water reservoir that was knocking around when the car went round a corner lol.

Just glad I didn't take it to the garage to find out what the horrid noise was ...................xxx Raz xxx

Many moons ago I had a 1966 Viva… I loved it. If I ever drove past another one I could be sure they’d wave and flash their lights.

Anyway, I took it to ATS to get a new battery one day. The guy kept telling me if I was having battery problems then I needed a new alternator. I politely told him I just wanted the battery but he kept insisting “trust me love, you’ll be back in a week complaining about the battery being faulty” and refused to sell me a battery without working out a quote for replacing the alternator also. He told me the price and the special deal he could do for me that day… I just kept saying “all I want is a battery”. Eventually I had just had enough of being called “love” and the patronising tone now in his voice, so I took him over to the car, lifted the bonnet and said… “You show me where you intend to fit the alternator and I’ll show you where the dynamo is”… fecker walked off muttering something and still never sold me a battery lol

ahhhhhhh the 66' viva's, those had great dynamo's. early ones had the Lucas C39's but later ones had the C40 or even better C40(L) the (L)being of course the longer cased version, as you know these can and regularly in later years as part of a restoration can be replaced with the Lucas LRD102, this was an alternator, and as many modern owners will get fed up with the poorer dynamo performance ( early owners made up for the power sapping a dynamo causes with weight saving) usually by the sheet metal , inner/outer wings etc disolving into rust after 20 mins exposure to moisture

is that geeky enough Polo?

Lol, but as we didn't see how the cars ended up there (like the dirty wheel-less green car ontop of the dirty blue car), one could suggest they were "placed"

Unlike this young darling who's just got her license and has trouble getting a good samaritan:

Good for you Polo, best stay away from chain garages like ATS, kwik fit, mr clutch etc, especially with an old/classic car

How did I miss this?

Oh your geekiness... it turns me on

Does it make you horny if I tell you before I went to ATS I had just changed the bushes and I think it was a C40 as it had two springs and two bushes.

I would consider lying and saying "brass" just to know you're feeling that shudder of excitement and a twitch in your trousers.... but I honestly can't remember as I got a mate to pick them up for me.
