Traveling 5 hours for a date

Northwich

I got taking to a guy a few weeks ago from here. We started chatting on WhatsApp and FaceTime daily and we eventually arranged a date at my place for tonight.

This is actually the first proper date evening I’ve had off here, not a hook up. He’s traveling 5 hours from Cambridgeshire to Newcastle for me. That’s a huge compliment to me! We get on very well and gonna have a date night of food drinks films etc and give each other a chance to get to know each other with no expectations.

Amongst all the time wasters on here this is a lovely story how they are lovely times to be had and lovely men also who will make the effort. He’s on route now for tonight.. wish me luck!

Thank you guys.

Yes I’ll update you all. We vid chat chatted for 3 hours the other night it feels great to have a friend like qualifies in a guy and not just the sex side. I’m making a cheeseboard and snack board and gonna have the fire on with TV. Definitely gonna make the effort for guys who make the effort for me. New motto - date with your brain!

Update:

Had a great night, absolutely lovely guy, great food drinks company and fun. Talked a lot. We’ve decided to remain friends and possibility meet again the line. There wasn’t a huge spark but happy to be friends. Definitely a confidence boosting date and faith restored in dates.

I am so glad it went well and restored your faith in dating. OK this one may not have been the one but stay strong and hopefully you will find someone who is soon. In the mean time finding new friends is also something good to do.

Glad it went well & was a positive experience! Shane the chemistry wasn’t there - was that on your part or his ?

Do you think he’ll travel 5-hours again just for the friendship ?

I don't think any person (man or woman) would travel 5 hours to meet someone if they weren't hopeful for something more than just friendship. I'm glad this was a confidence boost for the OP, because by the looks of it, it probably was the opposite for the guy. Driving back for 5 hours after what looks to be a rejection is a horrible experience...battling feelings of sadness, frustration, dissapontment, contemplating if you are or ever will be good enough, is absolutely soul crushing - I don't wish that upon anyone 🙏. I really hope he is OK

That’s a 10 hour round trip. Too far in my book for a social for anyone.

That's quite a reach you're making there.

Sounds like you're trying to make the OP feel bad that they didn't feel chemistry? That's kinda shitty.

If you're not feeling it with someone it's best to be honest than to string someone along and use them, or give them false hope. You also don't owe anyone sex either just because they've travelled 5 hours to see you. OP did the right thing being honest. And maybe if they keep in touch the chemsity may evolve and grow in the future, some of the best relationships grow out of friendships.

You have no idea what the other person is thinking or feeling, it may have been a mutual decision.

What reach am I making other than simply stating a possibility of the outcome...no one said that both parties didn't conduct themselves in the coreect manner, no one said that the OP wasn't right for being honest and straightforward, and this was presented as more than just sex, so the feelings of both individuals should be considered - or at least I am trying to. It's no reach to have sympathy towards a man, and I wasn't trying to make the OP feel bad, I just find it slightly weird how so many people are calling this a fab success story, when we don't know how the other party in this story feels.

That's actually a great outcome. It sounds like you had a lovely time, and although it didn't lead to romance, it was still good. That's a good date. 🤗🌈

Thank you for your reply. We had a great night - I definitely made the effort with food drinks and providing a great atmosphere. Let him know how much the travel was appreciated. It was him who let me know that he wants to be friends with me and not looking for anything serious - which I’m fine with. I am open to more but don’t think he wants it. Maybe we’ll get a second date down the line but the distance is an issue. Overall it was a great experience as we both wanted an honest genuine date and lovely night which we had. x

Sometimes things happen. And nothing wrong with not finding each other attractive. It happens. Glad you left on great terms though x
