20th April i fell very heavily on left arm at the Kent social !!

After leaving it for a week and hoping it would settle down on it's own, I eventually gave in and went to the Dr's, with concern sent me to A/E to have it X-Rayed, after this i was told by the Hospital Doctor that all i had done was badly bruised it....

So I again left it to settle on it's own but it didn't, so off to the Doctors again whom advised me to try physio. With a 16 week waiting list on the NHS he decided that maybe a private visit would be best, so off i go and get given some exercise to do as to which i thought were working fine after all i had was a bruise (until all the lifting with my daughter and her dislocated knee).

Today was my next appointment with the physio but i had to cancel and on the phone he told me that he had got hold of my x-rays and to mine and the Physio's amazement the hospital had missed a compression fracture in the bone between Elbow and Shoulder.

I am so angry about this because i am 5 weeks down line, still very much in pain and could have been on the mend but now it looks like a scan and plaster or brace !!

It makes me wonder sometimes if these Doctors are trained as well as they should be !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately compression fractures are very difficult to spot on x-ray, especially when there is a lot of swelling. I had one in my arm and one in my foot missed. When the foot one was finally diagnosed after an MRI scan the consultant was very impressed, saying it must have been very painful walking around on a broken foot for 5 weeks! Hopefully you will get better soon.

You could redress the situation and make a Medical Negligence claim. Whilst the money is probably not your motive at least you would ensure that those that misdiagnosed your condition would in future be more careful and subsequent patients wouldn't suffer as a result.

I visited my doctor on 5 different occasions over three weeks who told me I had conditions including gout and cellulitis on my elephant-like ankle.

It was only when a locum investigated further and sent me for an x-ray. The result.....s broken fibula.

When I next saw my doctor and pointed it out...his answer 'as you where walking I didn't consider that you'd broken it'.

I was unnecessarily dosed up on painkillers and in pain for about four weeks.

As a previous poster said, some fractures can be very difficult to diagnose from an x-ray...hope you get better soon.

Very often they rely on an xray rather than an MRI scan (it's cheaper), and very often they end up needing an MRI anyway!

At least, I assume, there will be no permanent problem, just a much slower recovery than it might have been.
