Track down a Singer treadle model. Indestructible."

I learned to sew on one of them..... had a bullet shuttle not a round one. I was gutted when mum had to throw the thing out when it got woodworm in the casing cabinet.

mine arnt the treadle type have to turn the handle

Weren't the bullet shuttle models very noisy? I recall my mother getting a very second hand round shuttle for that reason* and my dad converting the base and treadle mechanism from the boat shuttle to power a jig saw.

* she might have been making that up
