What are people's thoughts on fireworks?

I know it's very mixed and people often complain about animals but it is kind of out equivalent to the 4th of July in America. Yeah they failed but still

As a dog owner I hate this time of year. Fireworks should be limited to organised displays only. Giving explosive devices to the general public is a bad idea. My local muppets have been setting them off since early October .

My cat is 5 years old. For the first 3 years it was almost like he couldn't even hear the fireworks, no fear at all. Last year and, even more so this year, he has developed a fear of them. Came running in the other night and ran around looking for a safe place to hide, bless him.

Eventually came out of his hiding place coaxed by some dreamies.

Yeah I wouldn't mind so much if it was like Diwali, Bonfire night, Christmas, NYE, add one or two more. Still not a fan, but manageable.

Barrage from October to January? No.

Lots and lots of culture's use fireworks for celebrations, just like those bloody awful paper fire balloons. We are a diverse country, fireworks aren't going anywhere. People would be better off noise training any new pets.

My kids like them , go to an organised event with a huge fire … get ripped off buying hot dogs …. Yeah it’s ok …. Probably won’t go this year as they are older now won’t be seen with dad 😡

I'm a dog owner so not keen. I'd change them to be visual only and not be available for sale. Go to an organised display if you really must see shiny exploding things.

I don’t think they should be available outside of professional displays

My dog isn’t bothered by them but feel for all the poor pets that are I still remember the dog we had when I lived with my mam and dad he would piss himself with fright the poor thing

Just don’t see the point of them being available to public

Some sensitivities can't be trained out of. Some of us are just stuck being constantly on edge for 3+ months.

I never used to have an issue with them, until I was driving a work van through South London one November night and someone let a firework off from an upstairs window aimed down to the road, which exploded directly infront of me.

It temporarily blinded me as I'm driving 30 mph. Literally couldn't see a thing. I had to just stop the van and leave it in the road. Fortunately there was a fire engine right behind me and one of the firemen moved the van to a safe position. It took me about 30 minutes before I could see clearly enough & a good few hours before I had full vision.

I know the vast majority of people set them off responsibly, but at the end of the day they are explosive missiles and for the most part they're all shite.

I think they should only be for permitted events and you should require a license to buy them personally.

Negative impact on the environment and wildlife, several bird species for example already suffering from free ranging cats do not need more reason for population decline. I'm not a fan generally but if they have to exist I'd say organised events only.

Added to this the (small but impactful minority) of half wits who buy them causing damage. I recall being at uni when one streamed past my head as someone was letting them off down a high street on night, scared the life out of me.

I don't think they should be sold to individuals. #funsponge

I don't like them. There's too many morons who buy them to use in unsavoury ways too, ie to scare people or harm animals.

Plus they go on unnecessarily for weeks both sides of bonfire night.

They need more regulation.
