I once heard the late, great Christopher Hitchens views on the subject, and he basically said it was something to do with humour being another animal survival tactic (making light of adversity), and guys utilising it as another part of their arsenal in finding a suitable mate - women rarely need to make such effort due to the fact that males will always be the ones chasing them.

It's a new one....female comedian posing as male scientist.....

Thomas Dolby springs to mind...."She Blinded Me With Science"

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

There are quite a few comediennes. I just don't think men find them funny.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I don't think as many have managed to break through onto television, for a variety of reasons, and so are not as well known.

There are a couple of all female comedy nights coming up in aid of two women's charities.

Well the first post was because I was watching old Mock the Week episodes last night and it made me think, are my tastes very different to others. The second post was because I was concern with the lack of people liking female comedians on the first topic.

How much of that is just due to the fact that we weren't exposed to as many females as male comedians when we were growing up? Or that many funny women were funny actors and not stand-ups?

People forget the wonderful Joyce Grenfell or Maureen Lipman in full flow.

Is that Tom Conti's daughter?

Ventriloquist's just freak me out! Some are great, but it's the puppets they use, and how they can throw their voices just really freak me out!

Only in your opinion. Lots of very funny women out there. They just don't get the same airplay as men.

In my opinion its because men can talk about things that just seem crude commin from women.....

Men can take the piss out of their own situations but when women do it, I cringe....

Male comedians are better.....end of!

It's very subjective. I find a lot of female comedians and comics very very funny indeed.

Men are funnier dunno why that is, some comidiennes tend to concentrate on woman 'problems' like PMT/ ex-husbands and stuff and as a male it can get tiring however there are a few who make me chuckle:

Joan Rivers,

Smack the Pony (all female sketch show)

Kathrine Tait

Think thats about it!

To be fair, there are some great comedy actresses, but as comediennes I don't find them funny.

Maybe its the subjects they choose that I don't find funny. Certainly the delivery of some is plain fecking annoying.
