Lewish Hamilton has won 105 grandprix, he's the most succesful driver in history. Way ahead of anyone. But he's 40 now, and the past few years he's just not been doing well. Even his team mate at Ferrari is doing better than him. It's highly unlikely that another driver will beat his record of acheivement for decades to come. So should he call it a day and retire gracefully? I think he should. He defintaley does'nt need the money, fame or glory.

I think there’s a good chance max could beat him. Regardless of whether you like him or loathe him, max is probably the best driver on the grid at the moment. Some of the other drivers are good, but occasionally make an error, which max very rarely does.

McLaren need a win today, if only to stop max getting maximum points

I think he should retire. The greats always struggle with when to move on.

As to whether his record will least for decades? They said that about Schumacher and his record was taken by someone he raced against (Lewis). It would not be beyond reason for Max to beat his record.

Max had a great chance to beat Lewis records, as Redbull were untouchable just a couple of years ago, but Maclaren, Mecedes, Ferrari, and some of the young racers have come forward to fight. Redbull have lost the edge they once dominated. No the odds are against Redbull and Max now. Max would have a chance, but hed have to switch team.

Before the summer break I would have agreed. It was clearly a showdown between Oscar and Lando. Since then they have both had a pretty poor run of races and Max has come back into the running. Not bad considering he is in a Redbull that has lost its edge.

I think if Max has a car that’s even remotely close to good enough then he can make it do things that others can’t.

Yes of course we'd all love to see Lewis win and be up there on the podium, unfortunatley nature and time is against him. Novak Djokovic is still trying to defy nature, but his days are gone, he should retire gracefully and let the young ones have their time.

Fernado is 44. I mean really? As much as we all like him, he is way past his prime. Muhammad Ali was 39 years old when he had his final fight, which was against Trevor Berbick in December 1981. He lost the fight by unanimous decision. Ali just wouldnt retire when he should have.

Okay how many more years do you think Lewis can carry on racing? And when was his last win? 2020? When is the best time for a world champion to go? On a high? Low? When he's always behind his team mate?

I think he’s done what he’s done and nobody can take that away. Also he is where he is now and he’s either gonna be happy with that or he’s not. Plus if he quits, he’ll miss it. You can’t always have everything the way you want it but you can try to enjoy what you do have….

(this is an analogy of my fab experience - I used to be world champ, but now I’m happy with an occasional reply on the forum and ecstatic with a message

Let’s be honest here, the main reason why Lewis hasn’t done anything with Ferrari this year is nothing to do with his skill as a driver nor his talent.

That red car has been woeful this season.

This is also proved by the fact that his team mate hasn’t won any races either…

Seems some people just like to bash LH when he’s proved his talent and worth by winning 7 (should be 8) world championships…

You don’t just lose that talent…

Results for the last race; Lec(Lewis team mate) came 2nd, Lewis came 8th.

Now do you see my point? As much as we ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL love Lewis, it is most probably time for him to through the glove in and let the young ones take over.

I’ve been into F1 since I was a kid — it’s been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember.

I’m really glad Lewis finally got the chance to drive for Ferrari. It’s such an iconic team, steeped in history, and it just feels right seeing him in red. He’s definitely lost a bit of outright pace since 2021, the ground-effect era cars haven’t quite suited his driving style, but he’s still holding his own. Just remember, He outscored George Russell by 59 points in 2023 and finished 3rd for the WDC and almost caught Perez in a much more inferior car.

Sure, he only finished 8th yesterday, but that came after a 10-second penalty and a bit of bad luck in the first-lap chaos. Even so, he was less than a tenth off Charles in qualifying, and Leclerc’s easily one of the best one-lap drivers on the grid, so that says a lot.

I really hope Lewis gets a podium this season. He’s had such an incredible career, the records speak for themselves, but what I admire most is how he uses his platform to stand up for things that matter beyond F1. It’s rare to see that kind of authenticity and purpose in sport today.

Also Abu Dhabi 2021 was a complete robbery, I wish he won his 8th that day.

F1 just seems to be rubbish since the era of Ayrton Senna. Just seems less engaging with a lack of driver-car intimacy, etc. Also, not having the likes of Murray Walker commentating with his enthusiastic commentary, despite his occasional inaccuracies, was great for making F1 feel more human and exciting.

He’s still got so much to give to the sport.

If anyone should leave the sport, look at Lance Stroll! He’s only in that seat because his dad owns the team..

Last time I watched F1 with a keen interest was when Michael Schumacher won his last championship in 2004 to win his seventh championship by a massive margin by winning 13 of the 18 races.

Just not cut from the same cloth in my opinion, with Senna and Schumacher it was exciting to watch them race...!

Nigel Mansell as well was great to watch. Different era I guess, the excitement in F1 simply isn't there for me anymore . Old is Gold as they say.

Ferrari is so corrupt its embarrasing. A F1 teams annual finance awarded via the sport governing body is determind by how successful they did. But Farrari always get a big chunck of the cake even though for the past decades they under performed during the reign of Williams, Mcalaren, Redbull, ect. And Why is that? Ferrari said years ago that if they dont get the money they would leave F1! And this was a time when F1 was rulled by teams like Lotus, and Mclaren...

The last race Lewis came 8th and his team mate came 2nd. His team mate has on a regular basis been ahead of him. And you really think Lewis will lift Ferrari out? I mean really? Do you not think Ferrari hired him because of the fame(past) and sponsor he brings? Which is only a couple of years left.

A sprint only last a few minutes. That's why it's called a sprint. But in the main race your true fitness is what counts and that's where his age shows! You can't beat nature.

I can beat that. I've never watched any motor racing. It's the epitome of boring.

The faux excitement of the commentators doesn't help, either.

As a boy I occasional watched the Bouley Bay Hill Climb, standing on the hillside at 'Radio Corner'. That WAS exciting.

Lewis Hamilton has been of no more interest to me than Stirling Moss!

I don't remember the Merc being particularly competitive when he moved there. Took them a year or two and a change of regs to sort that. 🤔

I do kind of get what you mean - just watching motor sports is not the most interesting because tbe action is probably on a different part of the track. Personally I prefer to listen on the radio and follow the telemetry in real time on the F1 app because you can get a very good understanding of what is going on and why decisions are being made. I will then usually just watch the highlights after.

Errr maybe not that competitive.

For context, Mercedes finished 5th out of 12 teams in the constructors championship the year before he joined. Behind Red bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Lotus.

Their drivers finished 9th and 13th in the drivers championship in 2012

They were a midfield team that improved in 2013 as he joined them and dominated in 2014.

I like looking at the shiny cars. Once the new smaller cars and new regs are bedded in next season, then we will see who keeps their seats ( apart from Stroll) and who challenges for the race wins and ultimately the title, just wish they would get rid of the President, awful man. Mx

Fernando Alonso is 44 years old and in my opinion still probably the best all round driver ( as in aggression, speed and general race craft , )

Aston is coming along but realistically he drives more than the cars capabilities..so I think Lewis is capable of the 8th ..I don't think it's about the fame or money it's the principle..also I feel max will more than likely achieve at least 6

He won 11 out of 17 in 2020, which isn’t far off.

I’d say one of the marks of a really great driver is to rule the roost driving for two different teams; both Hamilton and Schumacher did as did Prost, and Fangio pretty much had a different team for every championship! Nearly every other recent champion has won in a single “run” with a single team.

Massive regulation changes next year so all the teams will be thinking they never have a better chance to win - so I think he will see what testing the new car is like in the winter. If it looks good, he carries on. If not, I think he will walk away. And if Fred gets replaced, he definitely walks.

Lewis is still one of the best drivers on the grid, but his driving style isn't best suited to the ground effect cars of the last 4 years, plus Mercedes really messed up with the zero pod idea and then having the seating position to far forward.

His first year with Ferrari was never going to be a great one, brand new team, completely different car philosophy, and new braking system (brembo from endless)

Next year is hopefully where we will see what he can still produce.
