how do they do it

got the stream running for my pond and the birds are all in there having a bath

got loads sitting on the fence waiting there turn.

i`v got 16in of snow and its -3c now

why dont they freeze

Something to do with their high muscle tone I believe.

And the oil in their feathers won't let the water dampen them, otherwise they cannot fly.

They are in there for a bit of fun I'd say!

leave the nuts etc this time of year they need lots of fat etc try cat food the birds round here love it

No need. Get a wire coat hanger and open it out, then thread whole slices of bread onto it (about 8 slices should be enough) and then hang it in the garden somewhere. They'll take care of the rest.

Works just fine but you need to spread something on it first- butter,jam, oil/fat from fried food as on its own it dosent offer a lot of nutritional value.

Three days ago I made porridge mixed wiht dripping .

Crushed cornflakes mixed with sesame seeds and melted peanut butter...

Rice cakes soaked in hot water to make them less dry.

Its all still there.

I've just thrown out tons of rice from last nights curry bash .... dunno how long that'll be there.

Some well fed birds around here - besides me I guess.

I'd be happy just to see some birds here - lots of foxes and yeah pigeons but none of the small song birds

I went off without reading about the DIY bird food

Got a huge fat ball and a feeder that we have filled up

not one fecker has had a peck at either of them yet

We keep our feeders frost free and bird friendly all year round.

Make sure you have water available to them folks they need it as much as food

No its not frozen,ive only just put it out there for them,ill make sure there is water for them too

..they can't get to their usual 'natural' sources of food so they'll take whatever they can get..

I've bunged out a load of old nuts and seeds left over from Xmas and they're loving that (not salted ones though!!)
