Not sure. You know it when you see it.

(And when you don't!)

Oh I'm not sure everyone does. I've seen some awful writing get gushing praise because of who wrote it.

Somewhere

Make sure the characters in it don't do impossible things... Get an editor to double check stuff (if doing it professionally)

Occasionally I see amateurs stuff and get halfway towards markup mode in Word, before taking hold of myself 🫣

Written?

Proofreading.

Punctuation.

An avoidance of phrases such as 'burning hot love rod' and 'wanton, love tunnel'.

Good is very subjective. But it needs to be free of glaring spelling/grammar mistakes and jumps in viewpoint as I find that jarring.

For me, if I can picture myself in or watching the scene and it turns me on then it’s “good enough”

The storyline must be reasonably credible, I've written a couple and they were things that had actually happened and so quite believable

I was reading this thread with interest as I've dabbled in writing erotica in the past but I know my limitations. I don't have that thing that makes it good, I don't think

I'd argue "knowledge of your limitations" is something that marks a better writer.

I don't question my ability to write. I just can't tip things over into (what I would consider) good erotica.

Good erotica I believe needs to be within the realms of reality. The language needs to clear and correctly punctuated so the story is able to be communicated, with just enough information to feed the reader's imagination and desires.

I've been posting some including a series I'm doing in partnership with another member of FAB. She's writing the female side and I'm writing the male perspective.

Do please check it out.

Louise and Mr Fitzgerald.
