Ive never been. I know it’s supposed to be a good holiday destination, but it seems to be not much more than that, possibly restrictive and repressive. ? Is there an authentic Dubai experience?

The authenticity of Dubai is the locals driving around in super cars / huge 4x4s , anything top range..

I went there in 2012 and was staying with my girlfriend’s sister and husband..

I have always said that it’s like London on steroids in the Sun.

You go to a local small mall and its crazy what cars you see..

The distinction between foreign workers is huge…

But definitely a good place to visit

I worked in Dubai for 7 years and although there were lows, a few hard lessons there were more highs. Massive expat community that do well to respect locals who have also softened a little to outsiders. Weekends were never boring, always something exciting and new to do. Dubai is an excellent base from which to travel. I would definitely recommend.

Taupo, New Zealand & Persian Gulf

Live over the border and go a few times a year. I wouldn’t say it’s repressive in anyway, as long as you obey the rules.

It can be buzzing depending on where you go. We always stay in Marina area, but also travel out of city to desert and beyond.

Slightly off topic… but have you watched the NZ series Brokenwood mysteries? 😂

They had an amazing gorgeous looking new built house in one of the episodes from season 10
