Ok i know this is a swingers site but have you guys seen the Aston Martin Cygnet, ok so there maybe there is a market for that sort of thing but why cant they do what Mercades does with the smart car and just stick a different badge on it. You cant put an Aston badge on a one litre car!

I think its dulling down the image of the marque and they should stick to what they do best and are known for......a prestige sports car manufacturer.

Did Aston Martin not get take over by a foreign company??

Is it to do with producing a car with low emissions and better for the environment??

Apparently yes its only going to be sold to people who already own an Aston so they can have a cheap economical car to commute with and their super car for the weekends. Now dont get me wrong that is a good idea and im sure it will be an excellent car (based on a Toyota means great build quality and with Astons finishing touches it should be great) but why cant they have a different badge for it, like i said Merc did it when they released the smat car.

er...guess

Isn't it just pandering to British snobbery? So people can say "I've got an Aston" without fear of contradiction.

Probably but in a negative way - think about it - all having a Porsche Boxter says about you is "I cant afford a proper Porsche"

So in conclusion, those running round the city streets in a Cygnet are really saying "my other car IS an Aston Martin"

Spot on.

And in answer to the earlier question, Aston Martin was owned by Ford Motor Co. up until a few years ago when it was sold to a private company, Prodrive, run by Dave Richards (the ex Subaru WRC team).

Sorry, I'll shush now

Well prodrive now that is a great company (shame they never released the P2) so the mind boggles as to why they are doing this to a marque company such as aston couldn't they put a prodrive badge on instead?
