Has anyone had this done, to extend mine to the full with of my driveway, it would be another two. Wondering what sort of price they would charge for this. I am in Birmingham.

Quite a bit of dosh. My nan and gramp had it done over 20 years ago and it cost a fair bit then.

You have to ask the Council because the kerb and the pavement usually belongs to them. They charge an inspection fee.

Then there is the actual cost. Is it a single dropped curb or a double drop curb? That affects the cost.

Probably looking at £1500 plus. More if it’s a double drop curb.

My nan and gramp waited a fair bit on the Council to actually get around and do it too.

I’ve never bothered they charge a fortune , 20 minutes to remove the old one with an SDS & & put a new one in. Get an old weathered one that doesn’t look conspicuous….

Someone came round once and I just told him it’s always been like and to go fix a pothole - he just said oh!

But then you could get an officious person who would go and check road plans/planning apps and then insist on you removing it and making good the pavement and kerb.

And all they have to do is ask around a few neighbours and you can be sure one of them will dob you in, particularly if one of them applied and was refused or if parking in the street is a nightmare.

yes you need the councils permission first. I had it done a few years ago but just had the standard size instead of going the full width, but wishing i had done the double size now.

yes i think i paid about £1500 when i had mine done, but foolishly i just went for the standard size, when i actually have a drive big enough for two cars, just thinking now with Birmingham council being so skint they will probably be charging silly money now to bring some cash in, if the inspection fee hasn't gone up i guess it will cost me £100 to find-out the price.

Don’t know if it would suit your application OP, but a friend of mine bought some yellow plastic wedge type thingies that sat in the gutter so he could drive his car over the kerb and into his front garden.

They didn’t cost much(don’t know how much) and if he moves house he will just pick them up and take them with him.

You never know, they may surprise you if you’ve already had it done once? No harm in asking! Also maybe try those things Huggybear mentioned? Worth a try.

I had the kerb dropped last year, 4 wide and the survey was about £180 and the work was about £1300.

i have seen those things in a few places, but i suspect they would get taken sooner or latter lol. part of the reason for extending it is there is a neighbor who tends to park partially across my driveway, at the point the dropped kerk ends, but its still in front of my drive, i should have said something when she first started doing it, but i didn't.

I seem to remember about 240 for the permission and they didn't even come out to check afterwards.

I'm sure you have to get council permission and they also drop the kerb
