Watching this on C4 - Never had the pleasure of doing Jury service.

If this is a reflection of what goes on - Is there a case of doing away with Juries?

The right to be tried by a jury of your peers has been part of British (well, English) law since Magna Carta in 1370.

Unless you prefer an arbitrary decision by one person who may just have an irrational dislike of you or a vested interest in you being guilty I’d stick with what we have.

Thank you King John ( I thought the Magna Cara was sealed in 1215)

It also doesn’t state how many peers , this has been developed over time.

If the reconstruction on C4 is a true reflection I would not want this cross section of my peers sealing my fate.

I think it is a true reflection of people’s attitudes nowadays -

I could go on but I rest my case .

Watch the programme first

Op I've done jury service twice and was foreman twice out of three cases and I wouldn't just go by this entertainment series in thinking it a good idea to ditch what we currently have which in some ways isn't perfect but is far preferable than an individual or a panel of three as in Employment Tribunals for instance making the final decision on innocent or guilty..
