Just wondering if it is the norm to ask for a small contribution towards your expences if you have to pay for a room to organise a social ?

Not the norm to ask but is the norm to offer

southend

If we had sole use of a room, we used to senda pint glass around towards the end of the night, asking for contributions.

Anything left over at the end was donated to charity.

Both the Cardiff & Swansea socials are in private rooms that have to be paid for & an entrance fee its charged, think it's £1.50 PP.

So if you had sole use of a very discreet private room with a can bar and pool table with no prying eyes and time restrictions do you think it would be outof order to ask / charge for a entrance fee toward rent rates electric ?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Depends how much you ask for. If its too much you won't get many attendees.

I was asked along to a gangbang social and wad up for it till told cost was 45 quid as it was on a barge i politely declined.

I would not pay that to go on the qeens boat let alone a barge.

if youre going to ask, ask before the event, don't spring it on them during/after

If there is a charge it should be fair and transparent so people know what it covers and have the option to attend and pay or make other plans.

And charging any one type of attendee an increased fee for a social event smacks of profiteering.

I have a great room that is ideal for socials very discreet with safe parking i will have to pay £70 a week then electric so a small can bar and maybe £1.50 each entrance fee is needed to pay the rent do you think this is ok ?

We were going to do socials fri sat sun and let the room for private encounters during the week .

Basicly we need to pay for everything and any profit will go to charity

What do you think x

been to both where the pot has been handed out and people have voluntarily... and have been where they have asked at the door.. only about 2 or 3 quid

both are fairly normal.......

if you are not sure most people will keep either the receipts for the hire, and a receipt for any money given to charity........

My partner and i have been to the Coventry Fab Social a few times in the past and i know that they generally charge £2.50 a head.

Its in a private building with buffet and music.

Generally there is about a 100 people plus attend so i dont think its a big ask for that small fee generally.

If it's just a social what's wrong with a pub? That way you don't have to worry about licensing etc.

It is a privately rented room for my use only . Yes it will be long term and socials will take place 3 nights every week

I feel that there is a need for a social meeting place now that the blackcountry social has sadly closed but i do need to cover costs

in my experience its normal, I have been to many social where they have charged a small cost, usually only a fiver or tenner, just to cover costs, im quite happy to pay that as socials work to my benefit when it comes to meeting someone to happy to pay towards the cost of running them, it does not seem fair that the organisers should foot the whole bill

Sorry if this is a load of crap but what sort of "room" we talking about like a village hall or something or a room within a large complex ?

Also sounds to me like you have more of a club type night in mind which could lead to alsorts of trouble in the future. As for the question as to weather it's ok to charge for a social then most will pay a small fee to cover the costs
