Do you have a favourite sleuth?

What's the story that intrigues you the most?

Do you enjoy the tv/ film versions?

Enjoyed poirot, use to love the old TV series. Wish they could do a modern version based in the book 😁

Transsexual Transylvania

Always Poirot is my favourite.

The definitive portrayal is David Suchet.

Favourite story and adaptation - Death on the Nile.

“Wallander", starring Kenneth Branagh, thought it was really a good series

Has to be Poirot, but I like Tommy & Tuppence, and The Secret Anniversary in particular.

My fave film adaption has to be Death on the Nile, Peter Ustinov version.

I should have been more specific

Its an Agatha thread, so all things related to Agatha

Not other sleuths

Thank God. I thought I'd misunderstood. 😄

Dame Agatha lived in Winterbrook, in Wallingford, near where I live, in her later years. She's buried locally in Cholsey. The Wallingford town council has a life-size statue of her sitting on a park bench overlooking the Kinecroft (park in the middle of Wallingford). You often see people sitting next to her, posing for a picture. ❤

Between Poirot and Marple it's tough to decide.

If any does better than David Suchet it'll be long after I'm gone.

Joan Hickson for Miss Marple, for me she plays Marple's "the daft old woman" cunning just right.

Simplicity itself my dear Watson, Sherlock Holmes all day. Hound of the Baskervilles is great, but Sign of the Four is probably my favourite. There's a really good audiobook version of the complete works on Spotify, can't recommend it enough

I've never read her books, for shame, but I enjoy some of the adaptations. My mum absolutely loves the old Miss Marples with Margaret Rutherford and the Poirots with Peter Ustinov so I grew up watching them.

Not a fan of the ITV Marple/Poirots but I really enjoyed some of the BBC adaptations of recent years and it made me want to read some of the actual books. "And Then There Were None" was really good and not just because of Aiden Turner

Kenneth Branagh seems to be working his way through the big Poirots. He certainly directs a sumptuous adaptation, but his interpretation of Poirot is a little too physical for my liking. Poirot is a man of the little grey cells, not an action hero.

And then there were none has a rather terrible history of name changes and edits to remove racist language which is one reason I’m not a massive Christie fan. I feel the same about Dickens.

There are other authors of the same period who’s works manage to not be prejudiced so I choose those over Christie

I'm really not a fan, very style over substance. I find them quite boring and bland, just stacked with star power.

I had heard something about controversy and the name change but in honesty don't really know much about it. I should probably educate myself on it!

I’ve long wanted to go to Burgh Island Hotel which is connected to Agatha Christie. It’s said she was inspired for two of her novels staying here. I need to save up a lot to stay. My closest has been watching guests being ferried across the sands in Range Rovers.
