I'm pleased to read Mounjaro hasn't affected sex drive 😁 I've been considering asking my diabetic nurse if I can switch to this. I've been taking Metformin for nearly 2 years; and while I'm pleased with the 4 stone weight loss, I am utterly drained by the gastric side effects. Does Mounjaro have these side effects?

It hasn’t particularly for me. It does make you constipated at times though but I’ve found plenty of water and some extra fibre help.

It’s been great for me all round

For me yes but the cons outweighed the pros when it came to the effect it had on my blood sugars as it reduced them greatly. My diabetic specialist team did not take me off my meds though

If you’re not on it already ask for slow release metformin

Thank you Littlebird 🫶 I'd much rather go through periodic constipation, than how it is now...sprinting to the loo several times a day. Looks like a call to my diabetic nurse is on the cards 😊

No problem at all lovely. Just DM if you need any more info. And yes please do. That’s not a great thing to go through and I’m sure they must be able to do something for you 😘

So from personal experience appetite deceases a lot so you have to remember to eat . You can only eat boiled or roasted food very little bread basically healthy food .energy levels dip a bit but diabetes becomes like a normal person

I lost 3 stones in 6 months and reduced tablets from 8 to 4 a day

Hi Cookie, thank you...yes, they switched me to slow release Metformin at the end of last year, but it hasn't made any difference. I told them this at my annual check up in January, but they haven't come up with an alternative 🤷‍♀️ The only time I don't have these side effects, is in the morning because I intermittant fast. But as soon as I eat again, I'm in and out of the loo for the rest of the day 😔

As I said to Littlebird, I'm definitely going to call my diabetic nurse, or even the GP. I can't go on being so exhausted all the time... that in itself is what is affecting my sex drive 😂

Hi OP, thank you 😊 Yes, same for me too. On the Metformin, my appetite has decreased massively. I completely changed my diet, with the help of diabetes.co.uk and now exercise most days. Congratulations on the 3 stone weight loss in 6 months 🙂. My slower weight loss was attributed to having surgery and treatment for cancer in my leg for almost a year, so I was unable to exercise as much.

Two completely different medicines designed for two different purposes.

As said ask GP/nurse for Metformin SR slow release, you'll notice a huge difference, if I take regular Metformin I just turn into a bloated fart machine.

The SR ones farts only happens if I take them on an empty stomach.

Did you have to ask the nurse for this ? I seen the diabetic nurse Thursday and she basically said she doesent know what to do next, metformin and gilcazide brought my hba1c from 106 to 83 so they doubled them up but it went from 83 to 89 since.she just got me a phone appointment with the diabetic dietitian Don’t want insulin if can be avoided. Sorry for the questions just at a bit of a loss with this

So if they have tried all the tablets and you are not going from 83 than next step is manjaro .you have to push for that though but it is life changing .i was the same was not decreasing form 84 and now its 41

No I didn’t ask as I was referred to the diabetic hospital team as on three different meds and hba1c was increasing to 101 despite being in a healthy bmi, exercising and eating well

In six months MJ brought it down to 55 but it’s gone back up to 64 on last test in July

However I do have cancer and am currently receiving treatment so this could be the reason why

And honestly ask away

Thank you for taking time to reply, like you I eat well, excercise a lot (very physical job and gym 5 nights a week) and bmi is high but bodyfat levels are well below average yet blood sugars remain high, hopefully get to try the mj as really don’t want insulin and they said that’s the next step never mentioned the mj.

I’m So sorry about your diagnosis I recall reading about it in another thread, you always so kind and helpful to everyone on here and truly hope for the best possible outcome

Depends on your dosage (2.5/5/7.5/10)

I found few issues until prescribed 10, then horrendous.

So chatted with my Doctor and switched back to 7.5 and the issues ceased

I’ve just been to my first appointment with a diabetes nurse. Since I am only on the threshold of diabetic, Mounjaro is off the cards for me… Metformin was offered but I can still manage with diet and exercise.

I really can’t afford to pay for Mounjaro so old school it is! 5kg lost already in 2 months.

Hi HnSM, thanks for this. I think you could be right. I was on 500mg x2 Metformin daily. Then they added Dapagliflozin, to give my kidneys a helping hand, but I had an awful reaction to it. So they switched me to slow-release Metformin, but at 1000mg x2 daily I think I'm going to slowly reduce this dose over the next couple of weeks. If it eases the gastric problems, I'll tell my GP we need to change it. I'm pleased to hear you're doing much better on the lower dose...it must be such a relief 🫶

Hi Aviatrix, 5kg is great 👏 Keep going, you've got this 👍 If you can do it without the Metformin that will be fantastic. I wish I never had to go on the bloody stuff My diet is now better than it's ever been, but I need to put more effort into the exercise...if only I had the energy for more sex, haha.

Will give you the incentive to never put it back on

I got a shock from the doctors a few years back cut all the processed food out all prepared food chocolate replaced with fruit and nuts ect plenty of cardio weights

Feel great sleep better and more Energy

One thing Mounjaro has done for me (Tom) other than help me lose weight is too bring my relatively high blood pressure down to moreorless the recommended 'normal'.

Have been on BP meds for years and none of them have ever helped in the way Mounjaro has.
